Do I need and alarm system?

I thought about buying one of the new code alarm systems for my truck before I move to Detroit this summer. My truck has never been in a big city for any length of time, so I thought this would be a good idea. Do any of you that have them think they are worth the money. I also realize that it would only take one time to pay for itself, but I was just wanting some opinions if I should drop the cash and get one. Also about the install, I would buy from Travis @ KCAutosound and I know that he gives excellent instructions, but is this really that easy of an install as everyone claims?

Thanks,

I definitely recommend it. Try and get one with a 2-way remote. While my alarm makes me feel better, I can't really hear it at work or home, so 2-way would be awesome.

i have the ca671 which replaced the very popular ca670 if i were to do it again id get the srt9000

the install is cake, it tells you exactly what to do and exactly what wires are where in the truck, someone who has never wired anything before could do this in max 5 hours

Absolutely...

I just read an article that Detroit is ranked as "the most miserable city in America." Criteria for the ranking include crime, economy and unemployment among others. Not sure if an alarm would make that much of a difference but it couldn't hurt! I'd ask Travis for the loudest siren he has (or use the horn honk) and two-way pager.
In any event, be careful out there.

2 way for sure. It beats going into a store and wondering if you remembered to lock up and set the alarm. You can check the pager, and if not, set it from there.

My viper allows you to choose different settings for different disturbances. For this you can ensure that the train horns only go off if say the glass was broken in, as opposed to some ricer driving by and setting it off.

Def. worth the money. I wish I had got the remote start for the cool factor, but the reality is I don't really need it. I would def get the broken glass sensor. I've seen a lot of broken out rear windows lately. Unless they shocked the truck enough, chances are they're in and the alarm isn't going off - unless they're dumb enough to open a door afterward.

man, where do you guys live? I've never lived anywhere that a simple locked door with expensive stuff removed or hidden wasn't a good deterent.

I thought these trucks were pretty much impossible to steal because of the PATS lockout?

Correct! When you have a nice HU, Speakers, Sub, CB, Tools, etc locked in the truck it becomes more than the truck. Especially because most insurance co.'s won't cover those things. If they get stolen, not only are they gone and you're out the money for that, but you have to replace the window they broke out to get in. Those little rear sliding windows are expensive to replace too!
