Change out my K&N for a S&B???

After seeing the S&B intake with the completly enclosed box I am thinking about taking off my K&N that uses the "heat shield" type shroud. Seems the idea of a enclosed box that uses the exsisting air hole in the fender seems a better choice then K&N's setup. Was looking for some feedback from you all on this.

Talking

are you just wanting an enclosed box. the k&n will pick up some air from that tiny little hole there. it gets its other air from around the headlight. i have had my k&n for a year now and have had no problems with it at all.

I would go with the volant intake which is also inclosed. I have had the k&n and also the airaid and by far Ive noticed a huge difference in the volant intake!

If you want a "close box" intake keep the stock one and dont wast your money on volant and S&B. I have seen both on a dyno the both make very little power over the stocker.

Even if it gives a little more performance, I doubt it would be enough to justify the money lost.

The funny thing is it wont gain performance.

A closed box seems like a creative idea to keep colder air flowing in, yet its the open intakes like the K&N and AF1 that dyno higher performance gains...

I wouldn't exactly put K&N on the same list as the AF1, it's worse than the S&B in fact. K&N has always had sub par performance, they let their name sell their product more than the numbers, etc. I chose the closed box design for a simple reason it's a truck, it gets dirty and dusty.

Thats a good point.

I chose the K&N for reliability, the lifetime warranty, and the power. The S&B is better than the K&N 77 (metal tube) series but not the 57 series, in terms of performance.

I like my K&N other than the mount that holds the big black plastic tube in place has broken three times. K&N has replaced it every time but its just a bother. I like the little gains stuff like this adds but i realize im driving a four wheel drive truck so im not in it to make it a race car. Im just looking to stop replacing that stupid bracket and it looked the S&B had something going there with their design. Yeah it sucks to spend another $250 or so on another intake....but uncle sam's money is burning a hole in my pocket. Does anybody have anything negative to say about their S&B intake?
Thanks for all you replys

The only problem I had with it is when I ran it with my Edge, caused a lean condition. Got ride of the Edge for a custom tune Xcal3. Definitly notice a difference in the S&B.

has anyone tried the airraid jr intake tube? I was thinking of trying that because I dont want the open filter, and it is far cheaper than a S&B. Performance isnt a huge deal...i have a 4.6 haha

Yes, I had it on my 5.4L. Performance increased a little bit but nothing like a "real" CAI. I'd do it right and get the CAI ...
