I'm not saying it's a big deal, but manufacturers are always looking at ways to bulk up their option packages. So there you go, a "cold weather package" option. Heated step rails with foot traction. You could even incorporate a line-x type surface to help with skidding.

probably a non-issue in 09. looks like ford has included retractible running boards a la Amp's steps.
