Vibrating ash tray

I've got an '04 FX4 w/ the flow through console. When its cold, the ash tray seems to rattle a lot. Can get pretty annoying during those mornings into work. But anyway, has anyone had this problem and found a quick fix such a strategic location to put a piece of felt or something? Thanks.

I think there was a TSB out on this

Yep, here it is:

TSB Main Page
TSB
06-19-13

* RATTLE FROM TIP OUT ASHTRAY - VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 1/1/2006

Publication Date: September 15, 2006

FORD:
2004-2006 F-150
LINCOLN:
2006 Mark LT

ISSUE:

Some 2004-2006 F-150 and 2006 Lincoln Mark LT vehicles equipped with tip out ashtrays, built prior to 1/1/2006, may exhibit a rattle noise from the ashtray while driving over bumps or washboard roads, usually when the ashtray is in the closed position.

There was a TSB on both the 04 & 05 models. They just put a few strips of felt backed tape in there to eliminate the rattle. Same fix for the electric rear window rattle.

same here, just remove it and put felt tape where it rubs...and it hasn't made noise since.

This ash tray (ashtray) rattle is an easy fix. I acquired a strip of tape-backed foam from work, cut a few small pieces, and wrapped the three (3) little pegs at the bottom of the ashtray assembly. It's easy to remove/reinstall. I haven't had a rattle since!

Here's another thread about it:https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=263430

I fixed mine this weekend. I did not have any foam tape so I just used good ole duct tape. I wrapped it around the 3 pegs and no rattles today.

Mine does it too. All you have to do is hit it pretty hard and it will stop. That is my motto with anything.
