usually if its flashing its the engines way of telling you to pull over. any other cars iv had said something like this in the owners manual

"if the check engine light illuminates the truck should be brought into the dealer within the next ~300 miles. if the check engine light flashes it should be pulled over, shut off, and immedietly towed to the dealer"

try to get the code pulled so you know how serious it is and then go ahead and take it in asap

I am not positive on this and am sure someone will correct me, i think that a flashing CEL usually is tranny issues.. Warranty?

A flashing CEL is a misfire.

My truck did the ame thing; however, when in "limp mode" it would run very poor, i.e. limited throttle, sputtering, etc... took it straight to the dealer and stood there while they used the scan tool and it came up misfire in bank 2.

Precisely what mine did when two of my injectors failed... it went into that 'flash' mode.

Have you felt it missing (or jerking, for lack of better terms?).

My guess is that you have a failing COP (coil on plug). My daughter's 2003 Explorer has had three of the eight COP's fail in the past six months. Every time one of them fails, the CEL flashes and the car runs a little rough, especially at highway speeds. Check it with an OBDII scanner to see what the code is, but I am betting COP.

Mine came on a couple weeks ago. Pulled over and saw that my intake tube going into the MAF was loose. Hooked it back together, disconneted the battery for about 15mins and have not had anymore problems.

When the truck is in limp mode the "Wrench" icon should be lit.

My truck had the flashing light also which was a missfire then it went steady after it missfired enough to throw a code. Read the codes and post what they are. I noticed tho if it only flashes it doesnt always throw a code. I have had COP's and plugs cause the blinking light. Good luck
