Highway MPG

I know, another MGP thread! Just wanted to post here to get feedback from owners of 2004-07 f150 owners with a 5.4 MPG on the highway. I own a 2007 Screw 4x4, I do most of my driving on the highway. I fill up my tank - 22 gallons - I usually get 300 to 330 miles out of a tank, if my math is correct thats about 14.5 mpg. I have read alot of threads and guys are saying that they are getting 17-18.5 mpg on the highway. I try to drive my truck very easy, keeping rpms under 2500, I set cruise control at 70 mph on the highway. My question is, am I doing somthing wrong or are alot of people over inflating their MPG.

You need to make a note of exact number of miles driven and exact number of gallons used. Also, they do best at 2000 or lower rpms.

First thing you need to do is actually calculate your MPG by filling up your tank, driving, then filling up again. It sounds like you are just taking a guess by when you need to fill up. I bet your getting better than you think. I have a 30 gallon tank and only seem to get about 350 miles out of. It's better than that ON THE HWY but I'm not running the tank empty.

my 2008 sucks gas like i drink pepsi. having said that on to the subject of your truck mileage. my 2004 dropped off dramatically in fuel mileage the second i went over 70 mph, any thing under 70 it wasn't (to) bad. when i hit 70 or more it dropped like 3 miles per gallon. just my two cents on the 04 models. i am currently getting 12.3

With my stock tires on in the winter I average 16 mpg, in the summer with my 325/60/18's I get around 15 mpg. On longer trips I have gotten over 18mpg, but average mid 17's for my all hwy trips.

These are not the numbers off my Edge, these are hand figured. If they were off the Edge I would be getting around 18mpg. Trust me, my numbers are not inflated. If I did inflate my MPG numbers my work truck would be getting better than 10-11 mpg and 7 when useing 4WD for almost the whole tank.

Honestly, each and every truck is different. You could go to a dealers lot and get 2 trucks with the same motor, gear ratio, ect and you would get 2 different mpg numbers. I don't know why but thats just the way it is.

05 lariat Screw 4x4-Like the post above I sometimes get over 18, but 17.5 seems to be my average highway mileage.

What do you consider highway driving? I have seen posts where people think that pulling onto the highway, driving for 20 minutes and then getting off is highway driving. I get my best mileage when I fill up, pull onto the highway, drive for 6 hours, pull into a station and fill up again. I use cruise and drive the speed limit.

My dad's 04 SCREW 4x4 with intake, tune, exhaust gets around 15.5 city and 17.5-18.5 on the highway.

What kills the gas mileage is going over 65mph, going up hills (tennessee) and wind

You said your wheels are at 35psi.... go ahead and fill the up right below the max

I have gotten over 500 miles out 1 tank on pure highway driving. I drive with cruise on at 75mph and I have calculated 17.8 mpg on a couple of occasions.

Mine is a standard cab so it is lighter but I can count on 18-19 MPG running just under 70 on the highway with a bone stock truck and 35 lbs of air in the tires. When I drive from the mountains to the shore where my daaughter lives, I get 19 going to the ocean and normally 17 coming back for an average of 18. It has done it on many trips since it was new. I drive gently. I get 13-14 in local running in normal weather.

Cruising at 70 I get around 16.5-16.8 mpg. If I take it up to 80-82 I get 15.8.

This is with 4.10 gears and OEM 20's.
