Through the summer I think the best I got was about 18-19 mpg. I have an '04 screw 5.4, 2wd, 3.55 gears. I usually run down the highway at about 65 - 70. at 70 I am sitting right at 2000 rpm's and I go to work early enough that I can do 65 without getting run over.

Gas Mileage

The Computer on my 08 Lariat 4 X 4 Screw says that I am getting 13 MPG, but that is mostly city driving. It only has 150 miles on it so far, I will make a road trip after Valentines day. My 04 FX4 got 18 MPG on it's first road trip. I kept the speed at 65 or less though.

A bed cover helps with the gas mileage. How much does it help? I'm not sure. I cruise between 74 and 78 which is about 1800rpm according to the tach.

on the highway, we average 18 not pulling anything...the bulk of the hiway driving is uphill one way and usually against prevailing winds, which can be quite strong, we get between 16.5 and 18 on the way up, then 18-20 on the way back...on relatively flat stretches we average 19, and on a few occasions have pulled just over 20mpg (the first road trip to arkansas, we got 20.5 on the way up)

an interesting slant on the rpm thing: in my jeep, i get the best mileage with the least throttle pressure, which is around 2400 rpms--so often, i won't upshift to 5th for a lower rpm...

Interstate, doing between 60-65, I get 20-23. This is with a 4x2 3.55 extended cab 5.4L in Louisiana (FLAT!). Like others have said...if you want better mileage, the cheapest and easier mod is to SLOW DOWN!

Why do you post when you have nothing to contribute to the the actual topic?!?

I'm averaging 14.5 MPG in day to day driving (07 FX4 SCRew). On several cross country trips, I got 19 MPG. That's at 44 psi in the OEM Pirelli's.

On my last trip from WY to NC, my hunting partner drove his Tundra 5.7L. If you think we have it bad, all he got was 13 MPG with the truck essentially empty. That 26 gallon tank on the Tundra got really annoying after a while (frequent refuel stops).

I just checked the truck on the way home, I have just under 1/8th of a tank and 378 on the trip. 26 gallon tank. About 45-50 of that is city driving, mostly I do highway driving back and forth to work. 35 miles one way

I know what you mean....I expected a nice mpg increase when I put my stockers back on for the winter. I'm only averaging 16-17 mpgs on a level roadway with the cruise set at 70 . If I drop it down to like 60 it goes up to about 18 though.

I only get like 10 around town.

This is every fill up since I bought the truck. A few had heavy towing (4500lbs) but most are rush hour traffic. And these are calculated correctly. My computer usually shows .7-1MPG better than I get when calculated manuallly..

MPG
21.16
15.48
12.75
15.93
14.70
15.95
16.36
13.50
