I have 33's and I added the edge evo, volant intake, and also imco exhaust and after all that it brought me back to pretty much what I was. The edge is what made a HUGE difference.

Gears should solve any problems with the bigger meats. Check out the calculator on this site http://www.4lo.com/ IMHO 33=4.10, 35=4.56. I have the 5.4 with 18's and 3.55's. If I wasnt such a cheap bstd, I go with 4.10's and 33's.

Yup, I'm thinking 4.56's and 35's. That'll give me a little advantage on the ratio from stock so hopefully with the addition of all the weight from the tires it will keep it decent.

Yep that is on the 4.6!

it did after putting the edge on there. When I moved I was towing a uhaul trailer and it had no problems even up hill!

I am also running Royal Purple fluids in my truck which I noticed as well.

hope this helps guys.

Why spend $1400 to get it back to stock ? When you can spend almost the same amount of money, get 4.88's and have more torque ? Maybe just my opinion. I personally will be running 4.88's with my 35" tires.

Also remeber the MPG will suffer and I would hate to have a truck screaming past 3k doing 70 mph on the highway.

Was this in Od? Before my 20's & 33"s I was able to tow a Camero on a 2500 lbs trailer uphill in OD, now I know I wouldnt stand a chance.

I've had that thought as well. My truck is liveable stock, if I keep the power level close to the same I'm not too worried. Some extra poop for towing would be nice though.

I had 4.11's in my mustang and it did kind of suck doing over 3k rpm's on the interstate all the time (that was at 85mph though). I just felt bad for doing it.

May go steeper on gears, guess I need to weigh that out soon as I will be buying them in a few days. I'm not too worried about mileage, I have two motorcycles for that daily mpg, I just don't want to always be over-revvin the truck on the interstate.

I wish people would stop to think about this for a minute before posting this type of post. Its a 35 inch tire. 4.88 gears will not put the truck at 3000 rpm at 75mph. It would be approximately 2500. That tire has a lot of rollout and the OD is deep. If are talking about 3rd gear, your RPM's would be very high.

Even a 31 inch tire would not cross the ~2800 rpm barrier with 4.88's. OD is the great equilizer with gear ratios and remember, its different than cars that have a 26 or so high tire. Makes a huge difference.

^^ thank you... and there are a couple members on here running the 35" tire w/ 4.88's .
If your worried about gas mileage... go buy a little foriegn job. You know, those little Jap cars getting 40mpg's. Don't lift your truck or put on bigger tires on it if your trying to conserve gas.
Lastly, dont drive a big **** lifted truck 70 mph. You loose handling, braking, and put a lot of stress on the drivetrain. Leave earlier if your in a hurry. just my opinion. I get my best MPGs right around 60-65
MPG may suffer, but your torque gains will make up for it IMO. But it all comes down to how you use the truck. keep in mind, mine is not my daily driver so MPG isn't as big of an issue for me.

Mine isn't really a dialy driver...in the summer time. Anytime its warm enough i'm riding a motorcycle. Winter this is my daily driver though, but I do work from home. I do plan on 75mph driving when on the interstate though when i take it. Fro 4lo's chart 35's with 4.56's is already a little steeper than my stock setup, 4.88's would be that much more.

I guess I need to get out in the truck and do some driving and take note of rpms and then make the decision. Expensive decisions suck! I suppose if I go 4.88's and its too steep I'd just have to go to 37's one day

4.56 vs 4.88 is what ? a 6% difference. IMHO, sounds like you would benefit the most out of the 4.88's. Your towing would be up, and since its not your DD, you should be fine. I work about 2 hours away from home (one way) and I still commute my truck once a week (3.73LS right now) and I will continue to drive it after the 4.88's and locker go in. The higher gears should really help "around town" driving as well. Plus... this way you CAN go 37" tires later and not have to worry.

Also, check out this chart: http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm

4.56 put you back at stock with a 35" tire. 4.88's are the next over (not even in the 'red")

I originally had 33"s with the 4.6 and 3.55's. When I put my lift on I went to 37"s and 4.88's. I haven't had any problems...wait I lie. I did blow out the spider gear... The shop that did the work determined that the big tires just put too much stress on for 8.8 axle. They suggested adding a LSD, I did, no problems to date. If anyone is thinking about doing gears I would definitely suggest adding LS. I can really feel it if I am offroad and I loose traction in one tire, in a matter of seconds the other one kicks and I am off and rolling. I usually cruise at the upper end of the spectrum on the highway and I don't have horrible mileage maybe 14, 15 with a tailwind.

EDIT: To get back to factory specs, I should have gone with 4.56's but I wanted extra grunt.
