4 Wheel Drive Problem

Here is what happened. I was riding around my buddy's property tonight when I hit some mud. I put it in 4Hi. The light came on like it was engaged, but it wasnt. It made some popping sounds but nothing that bad. So I stopped and tried 4Lo. Same thing. Anyone have this problem or can anyone help out.

what body style? If old body style, then it is most likely a leak in your vacuum line for the front diff to become engaged. Just do a search on it and you will find some good info on it. If you have a new body style, the default is locked in the front, so that wouldn't be the problem

It's probably the IWE Solenoid and the Hubs ...

if it was an iwe solnoid, then it would fail safe in 4wd
if you are in 2wd and cannot hit 4hi or 4lo then you likely have a problem with the electric shift motor in your transfer case.

I've been there, I've had it fixed on my 2004 F150. It's the IWE Solenoid and it'll cause the hubs to have problems as well. So both should be replaced.

If it was the electric shift motor the 4x4 light would not illuminate. From my past experience anyways. Thumper is probably right.

It's your hubs and they probably are failing because a faulty IWE Solenoid. I went through the same crap on my 2004 F150.
