That sounds like it would be about perfect for me. If I hold on the gas and keep it over like 650-700 in gear when I stop, no shakes whatsoever. I do have a Diablosport Predator tuner that I can bump the idle up with. But the last time I tried it, my engine light came on, so I set it back to stock and it went back off. Maybe I'll try a little more experimenting.

My '06 4.6L idles very smoothly at 500rpm in park and about 550rpm in gear also very smoothly. When I start it (especially when its cold) it will idle above 1000rpm for a minute or so, then it'll calm down to its normal idle...

I don't know, 500 seems fine on my truck.

There is no IAC on a 2004+ F150.

Hmm. Well mine does idle very smoothly in park, and only shakes in gear as soon as it drops to 500 when coming to a stop, you don't notice anything like this? Maybe that extra 50rpms is all I need, I am right at 500 in gear.

Really?? I guess that explains why I couldn't seem to find it, I knew where it was on my '97. Wonder why they did away with it

Troyer told me that year model and PCM code effected whether the truck idled at 500 or 650. Mine idles at 650 with the Xcal 3, not sure what it did stock. If you get a custom tuner you can have it adjusted higher but I think some are set to idle at 500 or so rpm's. I believe my co-workers '04 does.

ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) does away with the need for an IAC.

Oh, well that makes sense I guess. So is that the big thing on the left side of the TB?

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, yes that's the ETC motor.

In the past week my truck has gone into limp mode 3 times. I pulled codes with the Edge and got ETC stuck open forced idle 2 times and ETC stuck closed, forced idle once. I'm gonna be changing that sumbich as soon as I find it! The truck went back to normal after I restarted it, I cleared the codes with the Edge...I wonder if they would have stayed on if I didnt.

To answer the OP, my truck idles at 520-580 with the Edge on lvl2.

Hmm, interesting. But what do you mean by "limp mode"? I may look into changing mine as well.

The throttle wouldnt work but the truck idled fine. The first time I was driving down the road at 35-40 and it shifted into 3rd. After it shifted the wrench light came on and the pedal did'nt work. The second time I put it in R and goosed it a little and it died. The thrid was the same as the first, the only differences were the CEL codes.

Wow, thats pretty erratic. I havn't had anything that bad yet. But, I just rode in a friend of mines truck which is the exact same as mine just a year younger, and it behaved identical to mine. He didn't think anything of it, I am starting to think I am just being picky.
