Precision 4.10 gears....NOT HAPPY

I notice that my '07 is starting to whine in the rear end too... but it is too faint... but give it 20k... it'll be whining like the rest of my trucks have.

did you install all your gearsets yourself? whining gears = misalignment. I've had 4.10 and 4.11 in my cars with 0 whine, and I know guys with 4.56 and deeper with 0 whining. gears are one of those things that the pro's should do, and not the driveway mechanic
to the op: glad to hear their going to fix it. just hope they get it back correctly this time
btw, someone asked if you need a friction modifier...yes, if you have the limited slip. otherwise it won't work that well

My '00 Dakota with 3.92's started whining at about 15k. Had them checked out as well at 2 Dodge dealers, and 1 independant mechanic... nothing wrong. Which by the way is factory (stock)...
My '07 F150 has a tiny bit of whine... but it's quieter than my '99 and way more quiet than my Dakota. But I'm sure it will get louder. My 3.55's never made a noise... but I only had them in there for about 4k miles... But having my 4.10's in... no noise. But when I give it a lot of gas or go up a long hill, she'll whine a little bit... but I know it's going to get louder. With 8k on the 4.10's it's doing fine. I had the gears installed by a professional shop that a friend owns who does differential work all the time.
Trust me... I dare not touch differentials.
To throw some more info in the bag... we've got a '07 Jeep Compass, and is whining too... granted it is front wheel drive... but it's got some pretty impressive gearing on it... it's final drive is 4.12... hence making the 5th gear RPMs at about 2200 rpms...
So to get some driveline whine from my experiences, is normal.
But I have heard misaligned gears... it is way louder than what I experience.
Well, I let the shop that installed my gears have the truck all day today. They called me in the afternoon and told me the gears were perfect in alignment and infact looked brand new even after 6k of driving. They did say my pinion gear had a knick which could have caused the whine and that the pinion seal was leaking. So even though the whine didn't really get solved at least they caught that.
Well, I picked it up after work and it seems the same for the most part. They just said the gears were inherent of making some noise over OEM. The gears themself doesn't really make the noise but the driveshaft IMO. Right by the shifter itself is where I hear most of the noise. Oh well, it may be slightly quieter than before but not much. As long as I don't take it over 80 then it seems to stay OK to where it doesn't bother me. If I cruise at 82 or over it starts a pretty good whine and stays constant so I'll be slowing it down a tad.
I also spoke to Troyer about it and he said some gears can whine while others may not. He told me a story of a car he had that had a terrible whine despite the gears being in perfect alignment, etc.
Oh well, I don't know whatelse to do at this point that won't cost me money out of pocket. I'll just live with it and quit my bitching.

I was about to send you a PM and ask you what happened with this whole situation. If they took the time out to check the alignment, change the pinion seal, than I don't they're shafting you. The speed limit is 70 mph anyways !!

lol I know. I just hate driving slow. I try to keep most of the speed at the track when I do track days but sometimes it comes out in me on the road.
