Program Key Fob without another one.

I only had one fob my truck . I lost my main set of key and fob and only have my spare key and no fob. I searched and saw i must have two keys to program a new key, but i couldnt find any instructions on how to program a new fob without an original. Thanks in advance

Wink

If you only have one key, head over to the dealership with a hundred dollar bill. They will be glad to "help" you.

That was helpful. NOT!

EDIT: I just realized you dont have an original. They can take care of that at your dealer.

actually programming a key fob only requires one key i think.....when i got my fusion key, i just followed the manual on programming one. i think just one key, but make sure you have all your fobs you want to work. if you program one fob and not the other, the other will not work., if that makes any since. i will run out and look in my manual to make sure. brb

yep only one key is needed.....you put your key in and turn from the one position to the 3 position, without starting the truck, 8 times ending in the 3 position and the door should lock and unlock to let you know u are in the program mode. then you just hit a button on each remote you want to program, then turn the key back to the one and the lock should cycle again and u are done. hope this helps....

From the Owners Manual pg98 - link in my signature below.

Programming spare keys
A maximum of eight keys can be coded to your vehicle. Only
SecuriLock keys can be used. To program a coded key yourself, you
will need two previously programmed coded keys (keys that already
operate your vehicle’s engine) and the new unprogrammed key(s) readily
accessible for timely implementation of each step in the procedure.
If two previously programmed coded keys are not available, you must
bring your vehicle to your authorized dealer to have the spare coded
key(s) programmed.
Please read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.

He is NOT programming a key. He wants to program a remote.

If you just need to add a new fob or fobs, you dont need anything but one of the keys and the replacement FOBS. You dont need specific or original fobs nor keys.

From one of my previous posts. I think I learned the procedure from on here. You can get fusion keys and fobs from ebay.

If you have a friend, good neighbor or family member with a ford, borrow their keyfob and try it on yours. It literally will not take you 5 minutes to complete the programming. The instructions are in the manual (ive never looked) but read something like this.

Start with all of the keyfobs that you want to program. It used to be up to 4, but I just did 5 on my F150. You cant add a single fob, you replace the ones stored. When you start the process, you clear the previous ones out of memory, so you have to do all of them each time you add one.

Get in the truck, close the door.
Put the key in the ignition and turn the truck from off-on (not start, but run/on) 8 times. Do it fairly quickly, but you dont have to rush like a madman.
The last turn, stop in on.
The door locks will cycle to confirm.
Press the unlock button on each fob, one at a time. The locks will cycle to confirm.

Enjoy your new fob.

It doesnt matter if its a 3 or 4 button (panic, unlock, lock, trunk). If you use a 4 button, the trunk button will not do anything, just ignore it. Also somone just uncovered the fusion key thread. You could go that route as well (fob built into the key).

I have personally tested this on a 2000 taurus, 2001 explorer, 2001 taurus, 02 superduty and my 06 F150. The other thing that you can do even though I dont know if it has any purpose is that you can program 1 keyfob to work two cars. Might be cool if you had 2 fords in the garage, you could just have a fob hanging to get something out the truck/car if you didnt intend to drive anywhere.
