04 f150 Engine Surges at Idle When A/C kicks on

04 f150 with 94,000 miles on it. In the past week I have noticed that my engine surges from normal idle to around 1100 rpm when the A/C compressor kicks on. It does this a few times every minute. Very annoying and it will move my truck if my foot is not on the brake hard enough. Getting a little dangerous at the drive-thru.

Yeah, I bet the kind folks at Mcdonalds wonder what your problem is reving your engine like that. I would live without AC for awhile if I were you, atleast till a shop can look at it.

I have no input except to say that I wish I was running my A/C in January! My 04 has a lot less miles on it but I haven't experienced it yet.

If you turn your defroster on the A/C compressor kicks on...

FYI, my '07 does this if I leave it in gear while I'm rolling in 1st... it's sometimes annoying. But it is because of the engine loading on the compressor.

My '05 does the exact same thing. If it cycles when I'm at a stop, then the truck will surge forward a little bit if I don't have firm pressure on the brake pedal. I agree, it's a little annoying.

My 99 Sierra would do this so bad that at intersections I would think someone had just bumped me from behind. I was always looking in the mirror to see if someone had rear ended me.

update for surge

I had a little time in between classes yesterday and decided for the heck of it that I would clean my MAF sensor (CRC brand MAF cleaner) and also put in a new air filter while my K&N dried. Excited because the surge at least in my mind has quit for now.
