Well, FWIW, I recently picked up my 04 for KBB trade in value from a dealership. NOT retail, but trade in.

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of selling mine too. I bought mine at about the same time as TruBluScru. I however have 67,000 miles on mine. I feel like I'm at that point of decision; either sell it or ride it out. I naturally don't have to sell, so I may list it a little higer than suggested price and if I get it, great. I wish you could add your additions to these appraisal sites (Line-X, Remote Start/Alarm, etc).

I had a bunch of dealers tell me that most aftermarket stuff doesnt add to the trade in value of the truck. I told them about my remote start/alarm and they were like Ok.... We're not giving you anymore for that being on there. Dealers suck!

If you're smart, you'll hold onto that truck for a lot more years and resist the trade in bug. You are running into a combination of depreciation, and rapidly rising fuel costs. Our pickup trucks aren't going to be worth beans resale wise here very soon... Just hold onto the thing and USE IT and you will at least get your money's worth out of it. Otherwise bend over and smile...

Guigster I remember you from way back when the 04's were hot @#$% on a platter. Those were the days!

I'd love to keep my truck but it's just not in the cards. I guess I'll see how private sale goes or maybe just say f@#$ it and bend over. It's only money.

In May of 2006, I traded in my Lariat and got $23500. It was loaded with everything except a moonroof and had 10000 miles on it.

I tried carmax. They were one of the $20,000 dealers. LOL!

After reading up on the CarMax thing I'm seriously considering it. A local dealer said he would just sell my truck to them if I traded it in...

Yep, those were the days. I haven't been on this site in a while until I got my transmission problem. Basically because I keep seeing the same questions getting recycled with all the new owners that we asked four years ago.

I don't think I'll trade it in. I may just test the waters and list it for more than what the popular sites say it's worth and see if anyone bites. Of course now that I'm getting my new transmission, I may change my mind since it should drive as good as new now. Although the new transmission with the fresh 3 Year/75,000 Mile warranty could be a good selling point for someone. I won't make my decision until after I go to the Philadelphia International Auto Show in February.

So FYI to those who may be considering selling their F150. Mines got 22,500 miles, loaded with everything except dvd or moonroof, virtually perfect condition and Carmax offered:

18k :/

F that I guess I'm selling private party

I was guessing that it would be somewhere around (likely just south of) $20K. Carmax has to offer a no nonsense price that they know they can still make money on.
