Filter Minder

Well... after doing some fooling around on Google... I came up with this:

http://www.filterminder.com/

It is actually interesting. I know that they use a similar device on the Focus and the Powerstroke engines... but why not the rest of the engines? Wouldn't it be a great idea to include them on the rest of the engines?!

I suppose it is cost or something.

However, I spent the $30 bucks to get one... and add it to my air box.

I got it on here:
http://www.sportcompactonly.com/K-N/...HOPFR100&st=90

I'll show pictures of it while I'm modding it. I think it is a great idea, as it will show air restrictions with a dirty filter.

Wowsers.. with all of these mods lately... I'm surprised I'm not bankrupt.

why not just spend the $30 on a k&n filter and oil it when it looks dirty every 6 months or so

I'm still paranoid about the oil contaminating my MAF sensor.

How does that filter minder mount up?

FWIW, I've run K&N's since 93, on many different vehicles and have never had any issues with oil on the MAF. I think the potential for problems gets blown way out of proportion.

I agree with the over oiling issues getting blown out of proportion. I have had a k&n on all of my last 5 trucks and I re-oil every 6 months and I have NEVER had an issue with over oiling. If you follow the directions on the bootle of oil, you won't have a problem.

We used to have those on the small equipment when I worked for a rental store. They came from the factory on our stump grinders, trenchers, wood chippers, ect. I think we even had them in our bobcats if I remember correctly.

To be totaly honest, We usually blew out the filters on a weekly basis, but I had seen some of the filters come back from long term rentals and even a trencher that ingested mud and had filters clogged so badly that the engines would never run and I have never seen one of the filter minders move off of the clean filter indication.

Well... I'm not too sure about that type of machinery... I'm sure it would be good on F/I systems, like having a turbo or super charger. Not quite sure how well it is going to work on a N/A setup.

The information on them is very vague on the internet... I thought I'd find more with the diesel owners... but really, not too much either. Surprisingly.

However, I bought it and if it don't work well on the F150, I'll just keep it for when I mod the Dakota with a F/I unit or if I get a diesel truck one of these days.

But I'll attach it to the F150 and who knows... it might work. As I wouldn't really see why in the world it wouldn't... but who knows.

Well... I've got a K&N CAI on my Dakota and it has never given me a problem.

I'm not knocking K&N filters... I'm just knocking Ford on their supersensitive MAF sensors.

Oiled filters only foul maf sensors when they are OVER oiled.

Then K&N must have over oiled my filter on my Escape badly enough for it to ruin the MAF sensor.

For an out of the box filter, that really sucks. I'd be on the phone with customer service at K&N requesting they do something about it.

We just received two 08 2500HD Silverado work trucks at work and they have those filter-minders on them from the factory. When I was in the Army all of our military vehicles had them and I never saw one tripped even in the desert. Of course our vehicles were generally way over maintained.
