04MY vs. 07 or 08MY

Has anyone ever tried test driving an 04 and an 07 or 08MY of the exact same configuration back to back?

I know Ford (and every other OEM) do a lot of cost reduction stuff to vehicles during the life of a program. It would be interesting to see/hear the differences between this span.

I can tell you that my truck made more on a dyno stock than my buddies 05 with Edge, Intake, Exhaust, and a TB spacer. 40k on the clock. My truck had 1200 miles on it and stock down to the paper air filter. Since adding exhaust, Intake, and Edge I make some 36rwhp more than he does which really excites him lol.

Yes, they implement cost cutting measures, but they also incorporate improvements as well. I agree though, I'd like to test my 04 back to back with an 08. Well, no maybe I wouldn't. I'd sure hate to be less happy with my truck than I am right now. Right now I love the truck.

I remember reading on a post awhile ago someone stating the ride was much smoother on his 07 then on his previous 04.

I wonder though if that might have been a case of new shocks vs worn out shocks.

A few things that were standard on 2004 model year trucks became extra cost options as the years went by.

Never drove an O8
I test drove 04, 06, and 07 Scabs when I was shopping for my truck. The 07 was the worse.. it felt very unstable, I could barely waggle the wheel right to left while riding down the highway and the whole truck cab would rock a foot on either side. It was like riding one of those coil spring critters at the elementry school playground.
Also the famous NBS F150 shake was present in all of the trucks but most pronounced in the 07.
The O4 I settled with was the tightest of all of them.

Quintin... I've got a question... do you think the New Body Style trucks were to be equipped with a stick shift?

I get this awkward feeling like they designed it with only being equipped with an automatic.

i dont believe you. my dad just got a new 08 and my 04 is custom tuned, intake, exhaust, and my truck absolutely destroys his in power. my truck has 79k miles, his has 800.

the only way that would make sense is if your buddy has the 4.6, which is probably why yours puts down better power stock.

BUT, i will say that my dads truck turns better then mine, better turning radius.

Before I purchased my truck I test drove an 05 Super cab 4x4 F150 with the 5.4 V8! About 2 miles from the dealership we have a quarter mile marked off on a stretch of road and with the 05 I barely got past 75MPH! But after purchasing my 04 SCREW 2wd and 5.4 V8 on my way back home from the dealership I decided to see how fast my new truck would get and the 04 got 88MPH through the same stretch. I done a power stall with both trucks. I know that the 05 was 4wd but I would think that the bigger cab of the screw would offset the weight!

Funny, I was looking at stats today and it showed the same turning radius for 04 and 08 on comparable models. I've heard people say this before though which was why I was looking it up. I wonder if there were changes but folks just copy these stats from the previous years.
