Getting a new Key, what to do????

Ok, I messed up bad. I lost my keys, only set. So now Im gonna have to go buy a new key from ford Im guessing since the whole PATS system. My question is, do I have to get the key programmed or anything? Or just buy it and cut it.
Also, can I get a Fusion key? Ive heard they work on f150s, so Im assuming they have the PATS system stuff.

you are going to have to get the key programmed....your only options are a dealer or a locksmith that can program keys...most stores will not cut a PATS key.

my recommendation is to always have 3 keys on hand...that way if you lose one you can program a new one yourself(takes 2 programmed keys to create a new one)

Since you no longer have a set of keys that are programmed, more than likely your only option is the dealer. I hope your not too attached to your first born, cause that's what it's gonna cost you.

I can't get to dealer b/c I can't drive my truck. So Im confused about that.
But, shouldnt a locksmith do the same thing or no? Also, how much do you think this is gonna cost?

if time isn't an issue, pick up a few pats keys off ebay...if not you are going to have to buy them from the dealership...pretty sure if the locksmith can program the keys for you he should be able to cut you some new ones...if not your only option is the dealership.

Can the dealer cut the key without the truck being there? If not then to dealer is out of the question, except for buying the actual key from them, then getting the locksmith to cut and program.
Yall keep saying dealer, but I cant get my truck to dealer, unless towing. So, is that what yall are saying, Im gonna have to tow to dealer, then get keys made?

Also, doenst the fusion key have the PATS system. B/c Ill just get teh fusion key with the door lock stuff on the key.

Any locksmith can cut the keys, but only dealers have the tools needed to program the new keys when no valid keys are available. Under normal conditions, two valid programmed keys are needed to program a third and dealers usually charge 80-100 to program a third key. In your case, with no available keys, the dealer will have to use their special tools to get a key to work, and who knows how much that will cost you, not to mention the towing bill to get your truck to the dealer.

Ok, thats what I was trying to figure out.
So, the ONLY way for me to get another key is to tow the truck to the dealer, get them to cut and program another key.
Also, truck is locked, so are they gonna be able to open door? Or will I need to get a locksmith out there to do that first?

You can try calling a few locksmiths and see what they have to say, but I don't think they can help you. Probably your best bet is to buy a few key blanks off ebay, have a locksmith cut them, and then have it towed to the dealer to get them programmed. It ain't gonna be cheap.

The fusion key can be made to work, but it's not easy. There was a thread a while ago about getting the fusion key to work, you might want to give it a read and see whats involved.

Once the locksmith cuts the keys, you will be able to get into the truck, you just can't start it until you get them programmed.

Here is that fusion key thread I was talking about https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ht=fusion+keys

Ok, called Ford. Getting a door key made right now for $5, to check and make sure that the keys arent in truck. If they arent, gotta tow to Ford and they will Cut and program 2 keys for $135.

Thanks for the link. I think thats my problem. I dont have one of the fobs, so im always opening the door with my key, and its only a matter of time until they get locked in there.

keys

I locked my keys in the truck for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it sure was nice having that keypad on the door. Kept a minor inconvenience from becoming a nightmare. Just punch in a few numbers and open the door.

Did the dealer say they need your truck to program the keys for you? If so I would check with another dealer. The guy at my dealer told me they can cut and program the keys with just the vin #. I had him cut me keys for a friends truck at work with the vin.
