As far as passing power, I never had problem.... in fact, people stayed the heck away from me when I came barreling down the thruway doing 75 mph.

Right now in my bed, I've got about 800#+ of tools, and 480# of sandbags of in the back... totalling me up to about 1,300#+ of stuff... and if you factor in everything else I've got in my truck including my weight, it brings it up to around 1,600#+... I don't even notice the weight it is carrying... I don't have no problems passing people, peeling rubber, etc.

I have seen countless numbers of v6 F150's all body styles, both transmissions, pulling double axle trailers with show cars, dump trailers, etc. All the ones I've ever talked to, loved their trucks... and they all thought they had way more than enough power.

Who needs to waste the gas on such a big engine?!

Personally, if you want to say something about the 4.2l or any of the other engines, maybe you should give it a whack... don't go off on tangents of "what you think" without first giving it a try. If you state what you think, without actually taking the truck out for a spin with various loads and doing various activities, then you have no say in what the 4.2l can or can't do.
Look I understand you bought a 4.2 and you don't want someone attacking what you bought, but thats not what I am doing I am saying that your 4.2 will not pull like an early 90's diesel like you said it would. And if you would read I did own a 4.2 and I loved that truck, but I get almost as good of millage in my 5.4 I have much more power, I could pull my boat with my old truck pulling against me, and I get to have that nice v8 rumble. I loved my 4.2 for what it was a cheap way to get into a Ford but I wouldn't go back to it, or try and convince myself and others that it could do things that it can't.

Mine? Nope can't say it does. Pulls like a champ. Not as ballsy as before (when I was running stock tires and what not) but still does just fine. But i am only pulling an open double axle trailer and only 1 Sami .

I've got an old Samurai sitting in the garage too. Can't decide if I want to scrap it, or spend more on it than it's worth. But of course, an oil change is $19.95, and that's more than the Suzuki is worth. It is getting to the point where parts are increasingly harder to find, and I sweat every smog check notice. Not to mention that every time it goes into the shop, I wonder if it's just smarter to have junked the car and saved the money in my pocket. Some lucky junk yard scavenger will really get lucky when he looks under the hood and finds the headers. But it is an '86, so you've got to have a certain emotional attachment to a little junker like that when it ran well for over 20 years of service. I wonder if my F150 will still start up in 22 years.

If your looking to get rif of your samurai perhaps we will be able to work out some sort of deal ? ? ? As for smog: I have it "green stickered" so I don't have to worry about it. You pay $10 per year and can tow it most anywhere and wheel it (just can drive or even park on the street.) And parts ? I have a couple websites that specialize in salavage and hard to find parts plus plenty of "upgrades".

I say can the 4.6.don't really need 2 v8'sYou can get the 5.4 for towing and all around power and 4.2 for gas milage and everyday driving.According to everything I looked at the 4.6 only gets a mpg more over the 5.4 anyway but with a lot less power so it was a no branier for me when I got mine

Ironicaly I just worked a deal on a Samurai and will be picking it up this weekend....its bone stock. The only thing it needs is a bushing in the shifter handle or something...anyway it should be a fun build. Are you guys leaving the factroy running gears in or swapping them out?

I say can the 5.4 if they are going to make a 6 liter gasser.
Remember the 4.6 was a replacement for the small block 5.0, which was a brave step for Ford to release a new engine as a base V8 in that competitive market. It made me ill before when they canned the 302, I could always do with out a 351.
The 4.6 can be made to put out the power, they just are not doing it for some reason. Just an example is the E fans, why wouldnt they put those on OEM ? OTher models have it.. ???
They had (have) major mechanical failures with the 5.4, I know they have replaced thousands of them under warrenty. Ok before the flaming starts, I am not saying the 5.4 is a bad engine.. just keeping it real. I have one in my work truck, 2001 standard cab, short bed and it is really too much motor ... not complaining though.
The 4.2 V6,, well I have not driven one in an 04 and up truck so I can not say much. But the 97-2001 4.2 are nothing to brag about, noisy/no power/valve train issues/sealing issues. They must have done somthing to the new ones to have all of you praising them so much, makes me curious to try one. On that note, the 4.9 inline six was plenty torquey, so why did they discontinue it? I love those engines... seems to me the only engine worthy of replacing that one is the V-10 !!

My sami has 6:1 tranfer case gears and I have some 5.29:1 dif gears laying around in their box just haven't installed yet. Something I dont wana do myself and not sure I wana pay someone else to do it... quite the prediciment. And now i am thinking about going with either yota axles or the tracker/samurai hybrid axle's. There are SOOOO many things you can do to these samurai's and its damn cheap. These things can go damn near anywhere bone stock. i love em! Just be ready for TONS of people to comment on "what a cute Jeep" you have. I have seen sticker's before that say "NO, this is not an *******ing Jeep". Anyways I know of plenty of sites for good parts and reliable service. Start out with: http://rocky-road.com/index2.html and : http://www.samuraisalvage.com/index....ID=3&offset=50 two more sites to check out for Samurai enthusiast! :http://www.petroworks.com/ and : http://calmini.com/

I know of plenty more and have built a couple samurai's myself. i love these little things. If you have any questions or would like to know more sites or where to find specific parts go ahead and ask me and I will see if I can help. I also am in a little Zuk club so i have other's to ask if i am unsure.
