Your thoughts on the 6.5' bed

I know its not that big of a difference in 6.5' amd 5.5' bed but what do most of you guys prefer? I have the 6.5' on my KR but wasnt my choice. Im thinking about trading in and getting a new KR in the 5.5' but dont know if i can justify doing that for basically the same truck but i would now have the smaller bed and painted handles.

I wouldn't have the 5.5 footer. With a toolbox in it, the 6.5 is even a bit too small.

Feel the same way. Would have liked a 8' bed if I had the option.

The question is it just for looks? Or do you use the bed? I know I use mine to haul stuff all the time and the 1.5' would have been nice.

Scab w/ 6.5 has the best proportions IMO.

I just purchased a 2008 SCAB with the 6.5' bed for a couple of reasons. One, like others have noted I think the proportions are just right and; two, I wanted to put a topper on it so that I could sleep in it for overnighters at the fishing lake and a 5.5' bed is just too short to stretch out in. I love the 6.5!

It depends on what your needs are for the truck. My truck is my daily driver and I don't use it for hauling tools or stuff for the job. I use it for your typical house hauling needs. I ocassionally tow my motorcycle on a trailer as well. The 5.5' works just fine for me.

I think the 6.5' is too long on the super crews. I personally don't like it. Although, there's been a few times when I would have liked the extra space, especially with my toolbox back there, but I make due. I love the 5.5' footer for it's looks and it serves me fine 99.9999% of the time.

My sentiments exactly. I would hate to have to manuver a Screw with the 6 1/2.

The 6.5 foot bed is a bit long on a Super Crew. Doesn't look bad, but I bet it is a pain in the tail to drive...

The length of the bed is one reason I bought a super cab instead of a super crew. But honestly, I cut up some of that space with the toolbox. Not sure I should have done that... It mostly carries junk anyway...

As far as the topper goes. For my beach / fishing trips when I head out, I have two fiberglass sectioned tent poles I arch across the stake pockets, and I can toss a 10x10 silver tarp over it and bungee cord it to the bottom lip of the bed and have a good shelter for when I get a little too much beer in me to drive home.

you would think it would be harder.

I have a 2004 scab with the 6.5 bed, and my dad just picked up a new 08 KR crewcab 6.5 bed, the wheelbase is huge. He said is actually turns and maneuvers better then my truck (used to be his). maybe they made some steering changes since 04? dunno.

i couldnt live without the 6.5 bed. i can fit my grizzly ATV in the bed AND shut the tailgate behind it. It makes hunting trips so much more simple.

To me a 5.5' bed is useless. I can't stand for my dirtbike tire to be on the tailgate.

i have a 5.5 and when i bought my truck that was the only choice. if a 6.5 was available in 2004 i would have gotten it. i settled for the 5.5 becuase if you put the gate down, from the front of the bed to the end of the gate is 8 feet.... which is good for carrying drywall or plywood sheets. the 6.5 would have given me a little more room to hold the ATV i am looking at..... oh well.

I never have really liked the looks of the 5.5 bed. Since nobody usually is in the truck with me I got the scab. With my toolbox it's just like having the 5.5 sometimes. I don't know if its available or not, but it would be nice to have that new cargo organizer that the new superduty's have. Keep's stuff from rolling around in the bed and extends it. When your done it just folds back into the sides of the bed.
