Your thoughts on the 6.5' bed
I don't disagree with you, Mitch. But I would qualify it this way:
If you "Need" an 8' bed than a 6.5 or smaller is, in fact, useless. It all depends upon your needs. I didn't need an 8' bed but I did need a 6.5 so in my case, a 5.5 would have been useless. If you don't need anything longer than a 5.5 then get a 5.5. It's not just a matter of taste and style.

5.5' beds on Supercabs look goofy to me. Like the truck is out of proportion.
I personally wouldn't have any bed shorter than a 6.5, but the 8' is annoyingly long; even the 6.5 is a tight fit in some of the places I drive and park.

5.5 beds are for soccer moms, preppy boys, and people that really should have gone with an SUV
my opinion.. which shouldn't matter folks..
The 5.5 on a Scab really looks strange to me also.
Also, I had a 99 Siverado same configuration as my Scab 6.5 bed, and the tool box I had in the chevy is swallowed up in this Ford, the bed is much wider and taller.. good stuff! Im looking for another box now.

Most people who state that a 6.5' bed is harder to drive than a 5.5' bed don't know what they are talking about or they are just trying to make themselves feel better about their short bed purchase.

I guess I am a soccer mom... In the three years I have had by 5.5' SCAB, I have only been close to needing a longer bed once but I was able to arrange things to fit. The bed is large enough carry the fuel, tools, spare parts etc I need to go to the races and the truck easily fits in my garage.
If I were to buy a new truck, it would have the 5.5' bed.

I could have kept my opinion to myself, but what fun would that be
sorry , not trying to offend anyone. IMO any truck bed should be able to haul a full sheet of plywood or drywall without hanging over the edge.
If any of you with 5.5 beds are completly satisfied, that is ok for you, as long as you are sure you are not coming up short.
For some reason when I was shopping for this Scab, I saw dozens of Sportracs, and Screw 5.5 trucks. Somebody is trading them in at a higher rate than Scabs and Regular cabs.. I still do not see a lot of those for sale in this area. There have been none in the papers, or advertised in about a month now. odd huh.
On the other hand some of the best looking trucks on the forum have shortys, so it is just a matter of taste and practicality!!

what about people that never haul anything in the bed, they tow?
I know many electricians and plumbers... you know, real truck people that tow work trailers with a SCrew and don't put anyhting in the bed.
Are they soccer Moms too?
I do not haul or tow anything. I saw no need to get a 6.5 bed. Personally, I prefer the 5.5 bed more myself and in the event that I "Do" need more space, I do have my bed extender that came with my truck.
If I were an electrician or a plumber, I'd probably do like the rest do and just use a cargo van. Much handier than a truck and trailer I'd think. Plus, you could still pull a trailer if you had that much stuff to haul around. I have seen electricians pulling trailers though, but usually the bed was full of stuff too.

It is tough to drive though. I'm careful in parking lots and turning sharp corners (into driveways, etc). Backing would be impossible w/o the sensors.
At home, I have to park in the carport because the truck is too long for the garage. Even a 5.5' bed would likely have been too long. But I certainly would not trade it for something smaller until the kids move out (10 years at least).
