07 F150 FX4 - Garaged and driven little - suggestions?

Hello all,

I've got an 07 F150 FX4 SuperCrew, and have had it for exactly 7 months now. I read somewhere that it should have the 4x4 exercised on occasion, on wet grass or dirt road, and never pavement. Is this really necessary? My truck doesn't get driven much, has only 2600 miles on it in 7 months, and has had it's first dealer service at 2500 miles. I will change the oil and filter at the dealership at the 6 month interval, or 3000 miles, whichever comes first. (So far, it's the 6 months that comes first). I keep it clean and garaged, and watch the tire pressures and fluids. Is there anything else I should consider with this truck that only get's driven less than 100 miles a week on average?

And I just can't decide: Extended (Ford only) Warranty or not? Peace of mind, or not? I know that Ford extended warranty's are not the exact same warranty as the 3yr/36,000 (bumper to bumper) or 5 yr/60,000 (powertrain) original warranty, but that PremiumCare 7yr/100,000 looks like it covers almost every everything, except normal wear items. I know this has been beat to death, but it's still a tough decision. I think I need to make a decision before 12 months is up.

Thanks,
JSB

uh.

if youre driving it that little now, why think you will need an extended warranty? you may not even have the truck by the time it will hit those miles. I say dont bother. if its being taken care of well there wont be any major problems by then.

Yes the 4wd need excerised.

As far as the warranty goes you can buy it at any point in time as long as you get it before the original warranty expires. At your rate you got 3 years to decide, or 36K miles if you start driving it more. You can buy it from any dealer not just the one that sold you the truck.

At the rate your putting miles on it imo it probably wouldn't be worth it to buy.

I know I got the top of the line on extended warranty... I don't pay for any of my services, 20K 40K or even the 60K miles services, and she goes in every 3K miles for regular check ups... I think it cost close to 2500 but it was added into the cost of the truck... I don't mind.. plus its piece of mind for the next owner, once i get the beautiful superduty ...

To the OP, why don't you drive your truck? I have close to 18K on my truck and I got it almost a year ago this month...

You drive your truck just as much as I drive mine, only 4500 miles since 1-8-07. As for the extended warranty, I wouldn't bother. It would just be alot of money for a very low mileage truck. But wait until your 3yr/36000mile is almost up and just to see if you have a problematic truck, if you do then maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea. But if it is as problem free as most are then its just a waste of money.

normally I am all for getting the extended Ford warranty...but in your case I think it would be wasted money. as PHS79 put it, just wait and see how many problems have popped up by the 36k or 3yr point

I can't imagine driving so few miles

Trucks are like dogs sometimes.

They both like to get out and run.

Talking Thanks Everyone for your opinions

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I forgot to mention that I keep my vehicles well beyond the 10 year mark, so service/ownership longevity (requiring good maintenance) is an important thing. I've learned from you that I have alot more time to consider whether or not to purchase that extended warranty.

To answer DTheobald's question of why don't I drive my truck?

It's because it's my pride and joy, not my daily driver, (my 180,000 mile 1993 Ranger SuperCab is the daily driver - another good truck), it rains in Oregon alot, and it's color is Black. LOL.

When I get the canopy installed and the dog can be transported around, I think I'll be driving it more. It's good to have two Ford trucks.
