4.6 2wd Milage?

Please don't yell about the search button. I've done a search and there's almost too much info lol. I'm looking for specifically 4.6 owners to please post up their gas milage results. I'm looking at a truck identicle to mine, but only 2wd and a 4.6 instead of the 5.4/3.73 combo I have now.

I'm trying to figure out if there will be a fairly large milage gain going from the 4x4 5.4 liter truck to an identicle truck in 2wd 4.6. I'm seeing only around 12-13 in the city with my current truck, all stock except for aftermarket 20" wheels.

Thanks for any info. This would be a Supercab truck also.

Also, can anyone tell me what the factory MPG rating was on an 04 super cab, 2 wheel drive, 4.6L F150 XLT ??

Any help would be very much appreciated. Trying to make a decision between two trucks.

4.6 2wd Milage?

I have a 07 STX x-cab 4x4 w/ the 4.6 and 3.55 gears. Both my dad and brother-in-law have newer F150's w/ 5.4's (both also 4x4 & they have supercrews) and get BETTER gas mileage than me. The power of the new 4.6 is actually decent (and I had a regular cab 05 w/ 5.4 before this truck) but if you've got the money and want anything other than a reg cab then I say stick with the 5.4...you'll get the same or better mileage out of it. I have come to the conclusion that once the truck reaches a certain weight the smaller engine actually HURTS your gas mileage. I just wanted an inexpensive 4x4 x-cab without chrome and no carpet so the STX w/ power windows & locks was the right choice for me. Typically I get around 15-17 mpg. my Dad has seen as good as 21-22 on long trips and my brother-in law gets around 17-18.

Thank you very much for the information. I am basically only concerned with city milage, as I don't drive on the highway much. I drive around 20k miles per year, with 85% of it being city driving. Like I said, I'm only seeing 12-13 with my current 5.4l 4x4. Maybe I just have to come to terms with only getting that much. I'd rather pay more for fuel and drive a truck than pay less and drive a car.

I would say you might as well come to grips with 12-13. That actually isn't bad for city driving. I don't see the 4.6 doing much better, if any.

Mpg 4.6

I get about 15MPG around town. Last Hwy trip I took I got 20.x and was pulling a small enclosed trailer filled with camping gear and a cab full of boy scouts. This is driving sensible. If i rod it much, these number go to pot quick. Keep your foot out of it and the 4.6 will serve you well.

2004 XLT Super Cab
6.5 Flareside
4x2, 4.6 v8, 3.55LS
No Mods and a toolbox w/about 300lbs in it.

i have a stock 05 stx 2wd 4.6L auto reg cab with a 2" leaf hanger drop in back. not sure of the specific gearing ratio. my daily travels are around 60 miles total, highway and rolling back country roads each day. i consistantly get 18-19 mpg no matter if i try to hold back, or drive like i'm 10 minutes late for something. not bad for a full size.

have a 06 4x2, supercab with 4.6 and 3.55 limited slip differential,, chrome plated/clad steel rims, Michelin all weather special order tires from the factory (factory offered option), hard bed cover (Century), trailer package, factory hitch, 35.7 gallon fuel tank

This truck was special ordered from the factory, the way I wanted

area: south alabama Mobile specifically area is basicaly flat compared to most area, what we call a hll is a bump elsewhere.

Normal driving 25 miles one way to work, straight driving local road (1/2 of trip) 55-60 and remainder on interstate 68-70 on work days with some stops normally 17-18 mpg if hard and lots of stops 16-17

recent trip toTallassahe Fla, took senic route along coast during middle of week after tourist season ended very few stops, driving 50-62 mph
did 21.2 mpg on trip east

on return used I-10 running 68-69 mph mileage came back as 18.2

overall trip average 19.? at work now, trip ticket is at home

from what I have seen here the best mileage / performance is between 55-60 mph

type of terrain is main difference in performance, I am what most would call flat ground

hope this helps

last 2 mornings had to idle to get rrd of frost, yes we have frost on teh gulf coast,
1st 3 days this week had to run 70+ to work, kind of late to work

yesterday had to run 80 mph into city, then after work run arround the city to a meeting 25 miles on north bypass I-165 to 65 south then on to a east west street went through 20 stoplights was 1st vehicle at each, dogged it from each light then worked way home in heavy stop and go west MObile traffic

refilled truck this morning 20 gallons at 325 miles average 16.25 mpg

previous tank per receipt in truck was 32 gallons at 582.4 average 18.2 mpg

remember I have a 35.7 gallon tank

I have had to push the truck hard on the the last tank ( refilled with 20 gallons) so mileage to down
