Post Am I missing something on the grill area?

Hey there. I am very curious. As y'all know, I just got my FX4 two weeks ago. It got a bath today and I noticed something that just doesn't look "right".

In the picture below, under the main grill, above the license plate holder, isn't there suppose to be a honey-comb grill there, instead of "nothing"?!?!? It just doesn't look "smooth" for that front end, it looks kind of "wrong"?

One other thing, is it "normal" for a crapload of brakedust to be on the front wheels? Is that just an "OEM" thing? And, no I don't ride the brakes

Yeah that's the way they all come. There is an aftermarket GAP (grill accent piece) that you can purchase. It matches the upper honeycomb design.

Nope, there should be no peice down there.
Im with you that it looks a little wrong, not finished or something. I guess Ford thought it was ok though

My XLT does have those pieces down there but like they said I'm pretty sure they don't come with the FX4. Also, yes I assume there is always going to be a lot of brake dust down there because my front's are the same way.

Thanks!

I just wanted to "make sure". I am going to have to add to my "Mod's list" now - Have to order a honeycomb one to match the top grill. It "bugs" me having that open there.

Thanks for the info!

From what I've noticed on F-150, they have tons of break dust that collect real quick, it's a f150 thing. I'd have to say it's normal.

Yes the brake dust sucks. I was my wheels every week and by then they are almost brown. Im hoping this will calm down as they wear.

nope, 06 and up are open, plus the opening is smaller than the 04-05's where you could get a honeycomb piece to fit into the gap. I like the stock grills so I did the black billet inserts from Carrage Works - check out stylintrucks.com, and also got the one for the bottom opening too. Neighbor's a painter so getting the bottom painted gray to match the two tone.

As far as brake dust, the 06 and up are much better than 04 and 05. Both mine were real bad after a week.

Yeah that opening is much smaller on the '06 and up F150's compared to the '04-'05s. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that Ford calls this a "step bumper" as if you could put your feet in that gap to get better access under the hood. I know there's no way in &^*$ I'm gonna risk scuffing up my painted bumper by trying to stand on that part.

If you want you could always put the Hella grille with those two lights built into the grille on your truck.

Yep, the newer models don't have the lower gap gaurd... but that's where aftermarket companies come into play Check out Carriage Works for the lower grille insert if you plan to change the top grille too...

One other thing, is it "normal" for a crapload of brakedust to be on the front wheels? Is that just an "OEM" thing? And, no I don't ride the brakes
And the brake dust, its normal... although you can purchase some inserts that you put behind the wheels to prevent some of the brake dust...

BTW... How you liking the conversion?

Yep those are both normal. The opening on 04-05 trucks is much larger than 06+. The brake dust thing is normal too.

^^^ Just thought I would give the same answer that's been given 6 times already.

It is like night and day! We took it on it's first road trip this weekend, and setting cruise control at 73 mph and climbing mountains, I was expecting it to shift itself out of O/D like the Chevy always did, but not once did it! It cruised nicely up and over the mountains! I am plesently surprised with that and the way it rides.......and much more!

Is the only place I can get a grill insert for that lower area is from a Ford dealership? I really don't want to change out grills right now, I kinda like it. All I have found on the net is the honeycomb for the 04-05 - which is different than the 07's.

Thanks!

Already looked months back. There is no honeycombs for 06 and up. Here is about all you can do with the stock grill.
