New Tires/CB/PICS!!!
In the pic, it looks a little bit like KC5LDK's old Yaesu. Nice little radio...
I am sticking on 11m for now. All I need to do is there. Might get a license again and get back on 2 and 10m where I used to hang out...

Yeah sorry that's what I call them. One operates on an AM band, like a CB. (low frequencies) The other operates on alot higher (and more) frequencies. The FM is considered a 2meter, while the AM is an 11meter. Two totally different radios.
The FM can be used as a HAM radio as long as you have your radio license. Then you can talk on what they call repeaters, which are simply put satellites and you can talk long distances. They use these in hurricane situations and other rescue/recovery situations.
I hope I explained that right. I didn't get it to use as a HAM radio. We in the woods have a channel that we use to communicate due to not having phones out there.

Well, as far as a Radio goes it all depends on what you want and the features you want. The one I got is about 15 years old and does what I need it to. The newer version of mine is a Galaxy 44. They make them all the way from a $100 to well over $1000 depending on what you need. Galaxy, Superstar, Connex they all make great radios.
As for the antenna, on the pickup trucks you really can't go wrong with a steel whip. I have it mounted to my toolbox with a teardrop base. I will get some closer pics of it tomorrow. It was recommended to me after I used a Wilson 5000 for years on my Jeep. Remember I am/was running 6-700 watts at times. (not very often because it's mainly used as a backup radio.) But the steel whip can't be beat, it's just a matter of if you want it to bounce off of trees all day, keep you out of parking garages, and hit overpasses. (If you are lifted it will hit redlights
)
