Well for you, it would be awesome if Ford decided in your favor and fixed it under warranty. But really, it wouldn't be in everyone else's best interest. Not just this situation, but performing un-warrantable repairs in general. If they made it a habit to fix these kind of things for free, then that cost gets passed on to new buyers by means of higher prices... I guess that's neither here nor there; I'm sure one-off situations don't make any difference when you're talking about these mega companies like FoMoco.

Anyway, sorry fot the tangent... I do hope you get your truck fixed!

Sorry to hear for your troubles.

If the dealer values you at all, they should work with you on it. Taking it to the dealer you purchased it from for service may help...maybe.

Also, if they void your warranty, make sure to push for your money back for the extended warranty you purchased. They should not be able to force you to pay it if you haven't entered the extended warranty period and it is already void.

Good luck!

Any chance the truck was a Ford certified used vehicle? With the low miles it should have assured it.

Not that I can remember. I will have to go back and look into it. I have contacted my attorney and he is telling me that since I did not cause the damage and have all my service records that there is no reason they can not warrantee this. So tomorrow is the dealine from Ford so if they don't give me what I want I will take them to court. I have been a life long Ford owner and this has left a seriously bad taste in my mouth.

I do agree, you purchased the truck from them did your part then thay are throwing it back on you. I feel you have a strong case and will get it fixed. Sucks this happens, but you did buy a good truck that will give you many years of reliable service once this issue is fixed

First off, sorry to hear about your troubles.

So the truck made this engine noise and you still bought it? If that was the case, why not include that they fix it in the purchase deal?

I was told it was normal when I bought it. Then I found this great forum and realized it was not normal. So then I took it back to the dealer and was told it was normal. Then took it to another dealer and was told you have problems. This of course is the cliff notes version.

My 04 screw had motor issues at 35,000 It sounded like a lifter issue. My shop had it for 4 weeks, tried a bunch of things from tsb's to factory help. FORD finally just shipped them new heads under warranty and it runs and sounds like a million bucks. FORD knows they have issues with the 5.4L 3V don't let them bull **** you. I am disappointed as my old 98 had 160,000 on it and it sounded like it did when it was new. Good luck and keep the faith!

Update as ov this morning..........

Ford has accepted some responsibilitys and has offered 2800 towards repairing my truck. Now I am just waiting on the dealer to give me an estimate on the total cost of the repairs. I think if it comes in at that 2800 or less I will settle and have them fix it. If it is more I am goign to counter with my dealers estimate through my attorney. So I guess I am one step closer to getting my truck fixed. I will keep you all informaed on what the estimate covered, cost and the end results.

I had a 1997 with the 5.4 with 120,000 miles on it. Other that regular maintance I replaced nothing it was a fantastic truck.

Good luck getting things fixed. $2800 should go a ways toward getting it taken care of.

This truck should do the same for you after it's fixed.

I'm sorry for your misfortune in this area. These really are good trucks. I would imagine any decent lawyer can get that fixed under warranty, because the truck was sold to you with warranty, and YOU were not responsible for the abuse of the previous owner.

I bought an 04' w/ 40K miles and the original owner had the 5/75 ford extended warranty w/ $50 deductible and rental car coverage etc. At 65K it was knocking, thought it was the cam phasers at first..I dropped it off. They called me up and asked why I abused it so bad and why there was so much sludge in the head. I do oil changes w/ Motorcraft oil and filter every 5K so I knew for my part that was bunk. I produced receipts for all my oil changes and said I can't produce any from the previous owner, lemme know what you want to do.. Cam lobes were wiped on one side, and it had bad rod knock. When they got to the bottom end they found it was spotless and sludge was not an issue.

They ordered a reman engine, first reman engine that showed up had the dipstick tube broken off in the block, they were instructed to try to remove it.. debris fell into the block so they ordered another reman engine. That one showed up, they installed it and started it and had a bad noise from one of the heads, removed it, called Ford, they sent another reman head. While it was down they decided to remove the other valve cover and found the same problem w/ the other head so that ordered another reman head for that side too. They wouldn't tell me what was wrong w/ either head or let me see them and they wouldn't put a NEW engine in no matter what I tried. It was all covered under warranty and the reman engine has another 35K warranty on it I think.. Its running fine now so no complaints but that was a fiasco. If I didn't get to drive a rental F150 SCREW for about 6 weeks (for about $11/day) I woulda been really pissed.

Hopefully the money gets your truck running again, I shared all this to let you know your not alone..

let us know how it goes. I dont know what kind of abuse would cause that? Some crazy abuse i guess. Ford should take some responsibility if not all. How many miles have you owned it?

I have put 9K on it since I bought it in December of 2006. Changed the oil every 3 month. I just can't believe I have to sue them to get any where. I will keep you all update periodically. My attorney said it will be a 3-6 month process.
