So long Ameritracs! Hello BFG All Terrain TA's!

Could not take the stock General Ameritrac TR's 255X70X17, so today I went to Tire Pro's & ordered up a set of BF Goodrich All Terrain TA's 285X70X17". They are mounting them tommorrow! Can't wait, after 11,500mi on the crappy stockers, I've had enough! I believe I got a good deal, Mounting, balancing, free rotations & flat tire repairs for life for $1022.98. Does anybody here run this tire? What are you impressions of this tire?...

I'm on my 4th set. Couldn't be happier with an All Terrain... They are not a mud tire, but work reasonably well in mud... Definately a great all around tire though!

Are these on stock rims with stock suspension? I would love to have a set of these on my truck (still working on convincing the boss I need them). Will 285's rub with a stock suspension?

The 285s are as wide as you are going to go reccomended by BFG on the stock rims... You do not need any sort of lift to run these tires on a 4wd late model F150. And if you are needing to replace the Americraps, tell your boss all about durability, and greatly improved traction. Properly cared for, the BFG AT can be an annoyingly long lived tire. I WANT mud tires on my truck, have 30K on the ATs, and am nowhere near even halfway worn... (I measured tread wear a couple of weeks ago and it was still over 50%...)

The BFG ATs I had on my ranger had 90K on them and still had LOTS of tread left...

Going from 255's to 285's, how much does that raise the truck? Just wondering, because I would love to get these tires, but still want to be able to pull my truck into the garage.

Man, I just can't undertand why you wouldn't love those optional Ameritrash tires? After all, they're optional so they must be better than the standard Hancrap's right? My Generals are sitting in the basement with less than 10,000 miles on them. I replaced them with a set of Bridgestone Dueler Revos. I'm sooo much happier.

Thanks for the info!

I don't NEED to replace the Americraps...it's a WANT thing, and when that WANT thing comes with a hefty price tag, sometimes the boss just doesn't understand. She does WANT a new Explorer next year to replace her escape, so I should have some bargaining room!

Oh, THAT boss... Gotcha...

"But honey, these offer so much better traction in foul weather than the Generals. I would be much more comfortable driving you and the kids around with safer tires...."

It's in her best interest right?

That would work.

Plus it wouldn't hurt to give her a dozen roses. ( the cheaper ones of course )
