So... I think my truck is possessed

Anybody ever notice this before...

I shut my truck off, something good was on the radio so I sat there for a minute... truck does it's thing... turn the key off, the lights come on, gauges go to their resting position, then the head lights shut off, the the gauges all dip further left then pop back up to their resting position, then the map lights shut off.

What!?! Why in the world do the gauges dip left? That is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen!

Yup, it's possessed.

Oftentimes that means your voltage is down, check your battery cables, loosen them and get rid of any rust/corrosion then retighten.

Mine has had the guage dip since new. I forget how long it takes somewhere along 15-30 seconds after I shut the truck off. The guages dip down for a second then pop back up. I asked at the dealer and they had no idea what causes it. I believe I asked on here awhile back and now one else knew either. I haven't looked in awhile but I think it is only the MPH and RPM guages. Since mine has done it since day one I don't think it is dirty battery cables. I bet there are several more or all trucks that do this but most people don't see it cause they never look/watch the guages after they shut it off.

Mine does the same thing. Just caught my eye one day. I was wondering, WTH are the guages doing moving when the truck is shut off?

On my lunch break I took a look at it again and all of the gages move. I also noticed I don't have to start the engine. Just turn the keay to on and then turn it off and watch.

My '07 does this as well... however I know the battery is in perfect condition. It still happens though...

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but it is on the topic of possessed trucks.

While acelerating slowly(usually keep around 2k rpm) the other day, the rpms suddenly jumped up to around 4500 or so. Does anyone know what could have caused this?

Mine was only 3 months old and it was doing that. Its probly been doing it since it was new, must be some kind of a computer thing.

Adjust your battery cables so they get a better contact, at least try it. I'm near certain it will fix your problem. You can read your voltage if you have an edge and I also think if you hold down two buttons on your lariat or fx4 cluster you can go into diagnostic mode and read your voltage in realtime that way too.

Try it out and let us know what you find, the gauge sweep is the symptom for low voltage. Simple as that.

My HAM radio has a voltage meter on it constantly... when the truck is running it fluctuates between 13.2 and 13.8 volts dependant on the RPMs.

When I turn off the truck, the voltage drops off at 12.7 volts and stays constant (unless I turn on the lights/radio or something, then it will go down to about 12.5, to 12.2...), and that's where it was when my gauges do that little dance for me.

However, I've rarely ever seen my voltage below 12... the lowest I've ever encountered was 11.8 volts and that was because I had the truck turned off, and I was operating my HAM for about 1/2 hour on it's full 75 watts of transmitting power... drawing a large current.

But from watching my voltages consistantly, I know for a definate fact that my battery is in excellent condition.
