Cam Phasers

My truck is in the shop today to have the Cam Phasers replaced. It is my understanding that it will then sounds like a normal gas engine again and not a small diesel? Is that correct? Then my second question is..... Will it increase my gas mileage? I am holding true to a 14.5 MPG on the highway and 8.3 in the city.

It will sound like a normal gasser for a little while, then start to rattle again. Been there and done that already.

It doesn't rattle as bad as it did, but it's still noticeable after it warms up.

I didn't notice any increase in gas mileage (mine actually went down after they reflashed the PCM at the same time) but your gas mileage is terrible. I get around 15.5 mixed city / rural roads with the occasional boat trailer tow being thrown in there.

Had mine done 1-1/2 years and 20,000 miles ago. Still runs quieter and no noise returning. No change in gas mileage or performance.

I don't know what I have to do to get m gas mileage up. I have tried everthing even keeping my right foot out of it. It doesn't matter what I do my mileage is still crap. I have come to terms with that, but the rattle is driving me up the wall.

I take it this camphaser thing has been fixed and isn't a problem on say '07's?

And don't feel bad Cadmaster, I get the same... 14.5 75%Highway/25%City...

i dont think it will. i have 90K so it doesnt mean anythign to me. but the reason is because there hasnt been a recall that i know of and it isnt detrimental. from what i have heard, it only just makes a lot of noise and bad bad bad milage. i could be wrong though, there is a first for everything.

Update..........

I get the call from the service manager and it goes soemthing like this...

Mr. Powell the noise you are hearing is definetly not right and something is wrong. We will need more time to diagnos.

Okay take all the time you need.

Later that evening...........

Mr. Powell we can not replicate the earlier indicated problem we will have to keep it over night.

Okay take all the time you need.

Now I am thinking I have had the truck for 10 months and put roughly 9,000 miles on it and it has always made the same noise no matter if it is hot or cold. I think they are going to try and get out of fixing my truck. If that happens I am going straight to the top and talking to Mr. Ford himself because Mr. Powell will be pissed. I get sick and tired of dealers not doing what they should do for there customers.

So I had to go to Ford this afternoon and start it and drive it with the Service manager to hear the noise that is so obvious to everyone i the free world. So we take it for a spin bring it back in an he says "There is definetly something wrong" "we will need a few extra days to figure it out" I will keep everone posted on what happens in the next couple days.

Did you ask them specifically about the cam phasers? This is pretty common and they should know about it. Maybe they are trying to get out of fixing it? I know that the TSB says something about a "cold soak" overnight to hear the problem. I had mine done at around 10K and my mileage did improve, whether from the fix or from the engine breaking in, I couldn't tell you. I was around 12 in mostly highway miles, and it went to around 14.5 or so.

Cam phasers make noise when the engine is at operating temp. Example. Drive for 5-10 miles on the freeway, then exit and come to a complete stop, you'll hear them, only some are louder than others.

Well I called Ford today and expressed my displeasure with my Dealer. So they called them and gave them a stern talking to. When I called my Service Technician she told me they still had no clue what was wrong, but they were going to start ordering parts and throwing them at it until they find out what is wrong. That is one I had never heard before. So they are replacing all the rocker arms and adjusters. Not sure what that will accomplish but I might end up with a whole new motor if hey keep ordering parts. LMAO!!!!!!

Tell them you think the pistons and rods are bad... and you know a better replacement for them..

Then add the boost!
