Tailgate Dent

So a tree sneaked up on me while I was at work a couple months ago. I had my tailgate down while I was reversing and I idled into a tree. There is a dent on the tailgate now, and I would love to have it removed.

At first I tried a paint-less dent removal service, but he was unable to pull the dent.

Today I went to my Ford dealer and after looking at it for 30 seconds he printed me an estimate for $954.28 to replace and paint the entire tailgate .

I know I don't have pictures and I am working on posting them, but does that quote seem insane for one dent on the gate? Anyone else have any similar situations?

If the PDR guys don't think that they can get it, you're kind of against the wall on either paying a body shop or shopping around to try to find one at your friendly salvage yard.

G'luck. It's going to be a PITA any which way you go...

I got egged last Holloween and I had to have the whole right side of my bed painted. $350. That seems high.

That's why we have tailgate locks. So damn expensive.

I dont see how that could be "popped out" with a paint-less dent remover, unless you get a new tailgate, it's gonna take time and money to fix that. IMO, replace it or live with it.

LMAO!! No kidding, I was thinking this thing was a little tiny dent. Why in the world would you think PDR would be able to fix that!? Go buy a new one..

I don't think PDR would get that out. Like someone said, check your local salvage yard.

I didn't know if he would have been able to or not but the PDR guy tried for a while and didn't charge me anything so it was worth a shot.

When you buy a tailgate from Ford does it come in a base color and then have to be painted? Or is there a way to get one that is already color matched?

Try a boneyard, Back when I had my 00 Silverado, I had the tailgate ripped off by a backhoe (unloading) and went to a boneyard and found a wrecked truck like mine that had a shaved tailgate, so I kinda came out on top, plus it'll probably be cheaper.
