Wal-Mart shopping carts...

My run-in wasn't anywhere near as bad as yours. You see, me and a whole line of Wal-Mart shopping carts got into a fight. There was a line of carts sticking out of the cart corral. I backed into them, and only realized it when i saw them in my rear view when the line of carts bowed up in the middle. It left a descent sized upside down V shaped scar in my tailgate. Most of it buffed out and Ford says they'll pull it out and repaint everything for 367.20. I just gotta wait for the funds to get it done.

I just looked on www.getfordparts.com and they are quoting 276.87 for a new styleside tailgate. You should be able to transfer most of whatever doesn't come on the new tailgate. Add paint and whatnot and you shoud still be able to come in under the dealer quote of 954.xx. Just a thought. Oh yeah, estimated ground shipping was 24.00. This of course would vary depending on where you are.

Thanks for the tip. I was looking at a couple other sites like that and I was getting prices roughly around there.

I also talked to an acquaintance who works for the village. Apparently they wrecked an 06 8 foot F-150 a couple weeks ago. He said he would inquire about what they will do with the tailgate and if he can will hook me up with that.

He also knows someone who paints on the side, and said he would probably would be able to get it done for me for around $100 plus paint.

If the tailgate from the village does come through, does anyone know if there would be any issues in size?

There was with the old bodystyle. You'll notice the heritage ad above states, 'Except SuperCrew'.
Suppliers are pretty good about what fits and what doesn't after they get a few dozen returned.
I think Ford went with one tailgate dimmension on the new bodystyle.
Nice thing about the acquintance connection is with 'quick release' it's no problem to try before you buy.
You'd want to swap the lock of course.

I see that kind of junk all the time. Start calling the boneyards, pick one up and learn to repaint it yourself if you want to save the scratch. I always wondered how those dents got there. Now I know. And I've driven pickups for 20 years now...

Uhh... yeah. That's a tad beyond the capabilities of a PDR guy.
