Question 1st Oil Change?

Guys I have heard different opinions form different people, but my owner's manual says 1st change at 5000 miles, I have heard some people ssay 500 miles before. Is there a benefit to doing it at 500 mile the first time?

No, but with the dust around here, i would get it done before 5000. I change mine about ever 3500 to 4000. Use 5-20 Motorcraft and a Motorcraft filter. 57,000 and does not move on the stick.

Depends much on how long the truck had been sitting at the dealer's lot for too.

Many change their oil upon picking up their truck, for the reason outlined above, and continue with the regular service intervals after that.

The first change is a royal pain the **** if you do nt have the proper tools. The filter may as well be super glued on. Do a search for first oil change and witness the carnage. It would be worth it to let the dealer do the first one so he has to deal with it...

Definitely get the dealer to do the first change. Navistar employs greek gods at the end of the assembly line to turn the filters on, making it a nightmare to get it off yourself.

Yeah, get the first oil change done at the dealer, so we don't have to see your follow up thread about how you went through a 12 pack of beer, a box of Band-Aids, three screwdrivers, one roll of gauze, and an ice pack to the forehead to get the filter off.

You found it easy because you didn't have anything to compare it to.

Do yourself a favor....
Go to Autozone or any parts store and find a socket style filter wrench that has the 24 points, or whatever it is, to fit the Motorcraft filter.

No dust issues here, but I do the exact same thing with the exact same oil and filter.

when i change the filter on my 5.4 i use a normal oil filter wrench... with about a 3 foot pipe over the handle to get leverage. I'm sure i look half retarded with a 3 foot pipe sticking out of my engine bay but it gets the job done. thats why i use amsoil 7500mile oil.

Next time i'm gonna buy a filter relocation kit. anyone here ever use one?
