What do I need to convert my 3.55ls to 4.10ls?

The ring & pinion and a install kit is all you should need. If FatherFord adds anything to my list take his word over mine.

Are you talking about doing the work yourself also or what?

If you arent giong to be doing it yourself, I would go to the places that will do gear swaps and ask around. Get their prices on everything(a list of what cost what etc.) Sometimes those guys will give you a better deal if you buy the entire setup from them instead of brining parts in from an outside source.

I agree.

If you have to ask where to buy the parts more than likely you need to take the stuff to a mechanic. . not trying to be rude. Gears are expensive and if not done right can cause some expensive repairs.

I never asked where I asked what exactly I needed. I just dont want to miss something. I can do the install myself.

I did the swap from 3.55 to 4.10 on 32" tall tires and it was worth it. If you go to buy this gear, 50resto.com has a kit, gears, oil, and master overhaul kit for about $259 which is a deal. I bought everything seperate and ended up spending more than the price of the kit.

At any rate, it is worth the swap. It gets the chubby trucks moving quite nicely.

fatherford, quick question for you since we are on the subject. I am currently in the process of installing 4.56 gears in my 05 FX4 (started over the weekend). Just curious, how do you deal with the solid spacers on either side of the carrier when adjusting backlash? My install kit came with shims, but they are sorta worthless with the solid spacers. I ended up having my uncle machine me some new spacers in different thicknesses so I could swap them around and adjust the backlash. Is this the best way to do it? My factory service manual has no info on adjusting backlash (only how to measure it).

Whatever works. I got lucky and just reversed mine from each side and it got me spot on.

Ya, you did luck out. I needed about 10 thousands but my spacers were 20 thousands difference, so swapping would have gotten me +40 thou, way too much. On the bright side though, now I have a few extra spacers for the next time I do one
