Do I have a LSD?

How do I find out if my truck has a limited slip differential? On a wet road it will roast one tire, not two. I have a 2004 F150 SC Lariat 4X4. Is there a number in the VIN that can tell me? I didn't buy it new so I don't know how to find out. If it does, it is toast and I will be getting it rebuilt.

I am not exactly sure how you tell if you do or not, but even with the LSD, tires can and will spin on wet pavement. It is LIMITED slip, not NON slip

check the door sticker, and match up the axel code with

Axle Type

19 — 3.55 non-limited slip — F-150
25 — 4.10 non-limited slip — F-150
26 — 3.73 non-limited slip — F-150/Mark LT
27 — 3.31 non-limited slip — F-150
B5 — 4.10 limited slip — F-150
B6 — 3.73 limited slip — F-150/Mark LT
H9 — 3.55 limited slip — F-150

Damn, mine has axel code 26, I guess it is supposed to do that (one wheel spinning). I might look into getting a LSD dropped in it sometime. The truck just sucks off the line in the rain, the snow will really be bad.

Thanks for the information there, just what I needed.

Yep, it definitely sucks not having a limited slip. On my previous fords, if it didn't have one I usually had one installed.

That's what I love about my new Silverado, Eaton G-80 locker from the factory. Can't beat a locker.

______

ROFLMAO... about the only thing to love about that ugly POS. Anyways.. another way to tell if limited slip is on the vehicle.. raise the whole back axle off the ground. In neutral, turn the wheel by hand. The other wheel will turn the same direction. A non limited slip will turn the other wheel the oposite direction.

3.55 gives less pulling power and acceleration, but drinks fuel a lil slower than anything geared higher. I have that in my truck, wish I had 3.73 though
