Cruise Control not working

Hey guys/gals. First time post as i'm a new member and f-150 owner.

I just picked up a 04 f150 4.6 XLT 4x4. Love the truck. Bought it used in great shape. Checked almost everything over, but the one thing I neglected was to check the cruise. Doesn't seem to work.

I did a search, and basically I found that there was recalls for the older ones. I also seen some things to check, but I'm wondering if you guys can give me a total list of things to check myself before I resort to taking it to a shop.

As for symptoms, nothing happens at all. Should any lights come on when you hit the "on" button? And is the proper technique to apply the cruise just to hit "on" then get to speed and hit "set"? Just making sure.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Ryan

Welcome. yes, you are using the correct procedure. Check for a fuse.

I agree with Blue... go fuse first since those are usually the culprit.

Thanks guys. I'm assuming just the normal fuse panel inside the truck? Just follow the correct number? Not the under hood fuse panel?

Checked the fuse panel today. Only fuse I could find for the speed control was Fuse #2. I'm assuming this was the one? If so, it was ok. So no luck. What next?

LED lights

The recent recall involving cruise control did not include the 04 f150. Do you have any led lighting, I have read on here the leds can make you cruise not work. Check for LED tail lights or third brake light. If you have any LED light you may have to add a resistoror something to allow you cruise to work. Someone chime in if I am totally off the wall on this one...Thanks

Oh , when your cruise is on a little green light will light on the dash...looks like a green sprocket or clock or something like that. I think its near the bottom right corner if you have the xlt cluster.

Hey guys, i wanted to bump this thread because I am having similar issues. I did a lot of searching but didn't really seem to find a clear cut answer. I am planning on checking the fuse panel when I get home from work tonight.

A little history, very little cause i've had my truck for only 36 hours, and like the thread starter checked everything except the cruise.

I have an 07 F150 King Ranch with only 5000 miles. There are no LED lights outside. There is, however, a brake assist/monitor control under the steering column with 2 red LEDs that the previous owner had installed to assist with towing. Might this have anything to do with it? Thanks guys.

Glad to be part of the family

The only problem I've had with my F-150 in almost four years of ownership was when the cruise control went. It turned out to be the clock spring behind the button had bent. ( the wrong way )

Cheap fix and worth a look.
