Too bad $400 would barely cover the cost of parts for our trucks, let alone making any kind of profit for their time. .

It cost me $400 to have them swapped in. I bought the gears online along with the complete install kit for roughly $200. Total cost for my gear swap was about $600. Which is slightly cheaper... but on the ball park for a gear swap for one diff.

LOL .. First off, they're Motives. Second, what rear end are you running? Regardless I'd be pretty upset that a "good friend" only charged me $200 less than what a shop would charge.

8.8" rear end...

Normally he would charge about $650 alone for labor, depending if he had any issues, which is rare, but has happened.

He told me that the worst one he had yet was with a 1992 F-350, the guy totally messed his front diff up somehow, and he needed a whole new gear set... problem was that one of the gears actually got wedged at a different angle and got hung up. Not entirely sure if I am making much sense... he would have to explain it as I am not sure of the correct terminology. But when he showed me, I saw what he was talking about.

Thats what I thought about getting my lift done here in amarillo at one of the two places in town. That was until I talked with geoff at rize, now im headed to dallas to a shop that knows how to install rize kits, and will get a warranty and pay a little less for it all. So it might be worth it too look at surrounding areas if you wanted too.

Are Motive gears bad? I was thinking about getting some of those.

I've had buddys with problems with the Motives, I'd go with Precision or Yukons.

Where do you recommend getting them installed? I called 4WP and their prices were outrageous. American Motorsports off 441 wasn't too bad, but they were quoting me the Motive gears.

They quoted me like $1100 I think it was. And mine's only 2wd.

Did you call the 4WP in Orlando? I had mine done for around $1600 including tax and a Mag-Hytec differential cover. The front differential is a lot more work than just the front so it should only be half of what I paid.

Yep. That's what I thought too. I called other places after that.
