Ever hear of this?

From the previous post: I brought my 05 FXR F150 to the dealership b/c my brakes felt a little soft and wasn't stopping like it used to. They tell me my pads are fine about half worn down, but that my rotars are worn and need to be replaced. Unfortunately I don't do any off roading and I do mostly highway driving. Is it possible that my rotars can get worn before my pads? They said the rotars were worn from debris.

You could of wedged a rock in there.

I'd be more concerned about warping.

Ask if they can turn the rotors first.

They told me all four need replaced. $720 total. I just feel like I'm getting ripped off.

Trust your feelings, you ARE being ripped off. Find another dealer.

I cant believe some of the things dealerships try to pull. They are full of it, find another dealer. Or better yet take it to a trusted independent mechanic, you dont need a Ford shirt to turn a wrench

Dealerships will rip you off left and right if they feel they can. BE very careful. learn as much about your vehicle as possible. Ask around for a good reputable shop. And if you ever think you are being ripped off, go somewhere else, tell them nothing and get an un-bias second opinion. just imo

I second Scotts opinion. find a local, reputable independant guy! They tend to be more trustworthy relying on their reputation rather then their little patch on their shirt.

I spent about 540 on front\rear rotors and front\rear pads. Easy to do to. Cross drilled\slotted rotors. Hawk Performance brake pads BTW.

Tire Rack is selling the Powerslots for $98/ea. They're backorder but they should be shipping out September 30th.

Actually 720.00 for parts and labor on a 2wd may be in the ballpark. Front rotors from Tire Rack for a 2wd are 209.00 each. And the rear rotors are 99.00 each.

Front rotors 209.00 x2 =418.00
Rear rotors 99.00 x2 =198.00
Parts 616.00 before shipping.
And lets say about another 100 for labor and taxes. Ballpark of 720.00

Front rotors on a 2wd include the bearings pressed in and are considerably more than those for a 4wd.

I never said parts & labor were out of the question at $720.

I do find it highly improbable that ALL 4 should need replacing.

The fronts are usually the ones to go first, and I have used lifetime pads to offset that cost.

Its too easy to make the declaration that all must be replaced.
