X2 or is it 3? You'd never know mine were almost 4 years old.

I never really noticed the difference in the '04s from the rest until you posted that picture. Mine's a 2006 but I kind of like the glossy trim of the 2004's better.

Now I feel like I got screwed, I wish I never would have opened this thread.

Bottom line, it's all about cost cutting means....cheaper with matte finish then gloss. I have '04 with gloss and still looks great. Matter of fact, Ford even no longer uses quite steel on all F150 lineup, only on Lariat and FX4. It was way to save $$$$.

Where'd you get the information that they don't use "Quiet Steel" on anything but the FX4 and Lariat?

The quiet steel is still used to make the dash panel, on the '04 models it was used in the firewall as well.

I remember seeing a commercial for the F150 a while back where they said they used some kind of expanding foam or something in like the A-pillars or somewhere like that on the truck. Maybe they use that instead of the quiet steel for the firewalls?

As much as I love my '04, it has so many squeeks and rattles it's hard to tell where they come from, although I'd say none of them are from the dash area. Always sounds like the rear area, rear window area, jack under seat that I've never touched, rear passenger door, maybe obverhead, somewhere's back there-several of them. And then in the winter I seem to get some rattle from the passenger side area up front, maybe the plastic housing outside the dash (ice cube maker)?

Remember back before the 2004's came out, and there were rumors that Ford was going to cut costs for '05 by cutting back on certain things, and making others options instead of standard or included in packages? Many said to buy an '04 to save money rather than waiting for an '05 that would cost more for the same options. That was all posts I read here back in 2003.

Maybe they were right. I remember in '05 looking at the order sheets, and there were some items seperate that used to be included in '04. So I was happy I bought the first year. ESPECIALLY after seeing the glossy's gone, really enhances the look.

Here's to 2009! -->

probably another reason is that the gloss will be hotter then the matte and there are times that my matte pillars are too hot to touch when you close the doors

Our '03 Windstar had those gloss inserts. Never had a problem with them. Is there a way to retrofit those inserts on an '07 from an '04?

Oh, and Thump...u a smart little mufuga

You're one of the few here that makes an effort to spell correctly
Case in point, your selection of the conjugation of "we are" into "we're".

Just pointing out excellence. Give yourself a silver-star for today ! (not to be confused with a Smokestone-star....)

yeah you can buy the glossy covers but they are expensive and you have to basically destroy the old ones to get them off
