Nope.. not a type-o. Actually its gas; but VW underrates their economy. When I commute, its all highway with no traffic - so I never touch the gas, break, or cruse until I get there. 38mpg is within reach.

Not too bad at all. The wife's new Jetta only gets 32 per the sticker, but I'm sure it'll do better.

Besides being a diesel, I love the sound of the turbo spooling up....

True. My motorsickle only gets about 45. I think a Goldwing gets less than the car above.

My motorcycle got 63 on a 331 mile trip. That's hard to beat, if you ask me.

Anyway, it sucks that you had to get rid of the F-150, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I know how that goes. Good luck with the Vee Dub.

That is one thing I like about this car.

Thanks everyone.. I'll still be around, however. Like this place too much!

If your Passat is a 1.8t, then drop a chip in that biatch. Its a totally different car after that. Had a VW Golf 1.8t with a APR chip putting down 245hp and 270ft pounds of torque. Those little turbos are really detuned from the factory Bosch program.

My parents have a 06 Jetta TDI with 6 speed tapshift auto, if I remember right the window sticker said something like 37 city/41hwy. With my mom driving it to and from work she gets 43-44 with about 50city/50hwy. I took it on a 700 mile all hwy trip and got 49mpg going 75-80, dad just did a 500 mile all hwy and got 52mpg but he only drive 65 or 70 if hes in a hurry.

why not buy a DD for ~$1000 to take you back and forth to work? doesn't have to be fancy or stylish, and you could have picked a car that it relatively easy to work on if/when it needed work.

Yep.. sure did. My exhaust was welded on and the shop got rid of the factory muffler. Would have been too much work and money to go back to stock.

It's the 2.0T.. I've been looking into the APR and the Revo. Revo is offering a 5 hour free test drive... thinking of doing this to see what its like. From what I understand, I won't be able to live without it.

Sounds about right. This morning I averaged about 35mpg doing 82mph.. If I drop it down to 75mph, I was getting closer to the 38mpg I remembered. It's a beautiful thing..

..but side note, I got ran off the road TWICE today by soccer moms in their mini-vans. Wouldn't have happened in my truck

This is what I wanted to do, but the wife wouldn't go for it.
