i was bored today...

so i decided i would take off the god-ugly 2004 running boards that have plagued my truck for so long.

i could understand how my father would want them when he drove it but since im the only person who drives this truck now i wanted them off, im young and athletic enough i dont need them. plus they are just nasty.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

these things wiegh like 25 lbs each, plus there was like 5 lbs of mud caked between them and the body (which of course made my driveway all nice and dirty when they came off). ~55 lbs less = better mpg?? (dreaming of course)

i think it looks a lot better, truck finally actually looks like a 4x4.

Look's better

Had mine off for awhile too, but put them back on after about two weeks.

If it made you happy, that's all that matters.

Looks good. I'm surprised to learn they weigh that much. I thought they were just all plastic.

they are pure plastic but the 3 big mounting pods that you cant see with them on (see in the pic) are actually quite thick and add a lot of weight to them. i was surprised when i pulled them off i thought they would be really light too.

I will have to agree here living in Missouri and Iowa winters myself. I am 6'3" and do not need them, so always step over them, except in the winter with snow, ice and crud when there is a puddle or whatever right below the runningboards so I don't have to step in it. Also, they help when cleaning the roof of the truck b/c that is far from the ground even for me on the full size.

I like my nerf bars. I didn't want the stock running boards, didn't care for the look.

In the past I always prefered not having anything as far as step bars, etc. The last truck I put Westin Steps Bars on and ended up liking the door ding security.
On the KR, it came with the ABS molded ones. At first I didn't like them much, but they have grown on me enough now that I plan on keeping them. They are more solid than the Westin Bars that I had before.

even though they are plastic, they are sturdy as hell. I just dont care for the look fo them, they look plain and big and boring. But yours are colored, dont look too bad on the KR at all.

When i lift my truck i might put some small little carr scoop steps on mine, depends on if its difficult to get in (planning on a 6" fabtech). but i dont need to worry about that untill at least christmas time, maybe longer.

I was thinking about doing the same thing with my nerf bars.
Only reason i haven't yet is because they serve as a protection to prevent door dings. After seeing yours, I may do that today.
