it is over where the stock muffler comes out (behind passenger side rear wheel). It is on the inside of the exterior sheet metal... apparently designed to protect the metal/paint from the exhaust heat???

Turns out it doesn't protect the metal... it only holds water behind it and rusts out the truck in that spot. I had my truck in a couple years ago for the fix. I think they just pulled off the pad and cleaned up/repainted the metal (on the inside - between the bed and the body).

If you haven't had this done, I would get it in - I imagine it is still covered by the recall.

The butyl pad is actual butyl rubber(similar to). It is adhered to the metal to reduce road noise and exhaust noise inside the cab. It's the same as sound deadner.

I don't believe the screws were affected. Don't think they had the pad.
