Has anyone replaced their widow regulator/motor?
I personally enjoyed NOT reading the broken window thread but sure enough it happened to me two days ago. I first noticed a problem when my window would not go down. I could however hear was the motor trying to work. Soon after that I head a loud pop and the window wouldn’t stay up under its own weight.
So did a little research on here and took a trip to the dealership for replacement regulator/motor ($106). When I took a looked into the box I realized the install was going to be harder than I thought. I took the door panel off to see just what I was dealing with. My major concern was what to do with the window while replacing the regulator/motor. How do I detach the window from the brackets that hold the window?
I decided this was a two man job (one person to hold the window, and one to do some prying and pushing) and that I needed more info so I found a quick fix. I clamped a set of vice grips on the regulator frame to prevent the window from falling.
Anyone have any words of wisdom? I’m considering taking the damn thing back to the dealership…

Mine just broke a week ago, found window rolled down overnight in Long Beach, CA. Not a good place to have an unlocked car. Took it to the dealer, had it fixed in a few hours. Payed my $100 extended warrenty deductible.
This is actually a very simple repair. I was able to do both of mine by myself without assistance.
After removing all of the door panel coverings, speaker, etc... you will expose the hardware in the door. As you already have done. You will see that there are 5 bolts holding the window regulator in place. On the tracks that window travels there are 2 bolts (one on each side) that clamp the window glass to the regulator. Manually lower the glass till you can get at the 2 bolts clamping the glass. Loosen these and push the window up, free of the clamps and free of the regulator assembly. After the window is full up, slide something (stick or tool) through the large rectangular opening in the door panel just under the glass and let the window slide down allowing its weight to hold it in place.
Now loosen the bolts that hold the regulator to the door panel. Slide the regulator assembly up slightly and then back to free it from the panel. Disconnect the wire connector and pull the entire regulator assembly out through the large opening at the bottom of the door.
Reassembly is just the reverse.
Let me know if you need more help

Here's a trick I've used on past vehicles that I've replaced regulators on. After raising the window by hand use some masking tape on the glass and go over the top of the door frame. That will keep the window out of the way and you won't have anything inside the door blocking access.
