failsafe trigger temp.

Does anyone know what the engine temp. is that triggers engine failsafe mode? Just curious cause I'm soon to go to the beach for some 4wheelin in the hot sand. Last year when I went, I had the truck go into failsafe mode once or twice while I was on the beach, though noticed that the engine temp wasn't very high (didn't notice the exact temp, truck was new to me and I didn't even know what failsafe was, however whenever I drive on the beach in the heat, I am always very concious of my engine temp. and nothing caused me concern until my guages lit up). I gather from reading my manual that failsafe initiates when dangerous opperating temps are reached, but I know I wasn't in or near the red. Anyhow, I think my trigger temp may be set abnormally low. Does anyone know what the typical failsafe trigger temp is for our trucks (mine is an 06 4x4 5.4L). Was wondering how I could find outwhat mine is set at and if necessary, how to increase it. When mine kicked in, I wasn't getting very crazy, and just want to rectify the problem if there is one before I go to the beach again. Any info, insight, or past experiences greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

This happened to me as well, you should really convert to an electric fan system. Build you own it's insanely simple and can be done for under $100.

If the PCM detects a problem with the electronic throttle control, it'll go into fail safe mode as well. It's not just for engine overtemp protection.

I think that given the conditions I was driving in, and the fact that I definitely was running a little hotter than my normal operating range of 192-196 deg.f (and the fact that this has never happened at any other time) it was almost certainly temp. triggered. I just don't feel like my ECT was that much above normal range that it should have shut down half of the cylinders.
Josiah-wondering if you recall the temp where your failsafe was kicking in.
