Way to disengage auto diming mirror?

Hey guys,

Is there a way to disengage the auto dimming mirror? I just read my manual and there wasn't anything in there stating how you could do so if it is possible.

Thanks.

For some reason mine always stayed on auto dim and I couldn't ever see anything. So, I just cut the wires.

What the F150s don't have an off/on button? Wonder why they would do that. The Expeditions have the button.

my 2004 F150 has a button to turn it off.

What I think he was asking about is if there is a way to make it default to the OFF position.

I would also like to know - pretty much every time I drive at night I have to hit the OFF button because it gets so dark that I can't see behind me. Ford seems to have dropped the ball on this one - My rear windows came tinted from the factory and the combination of tint and the mirror shading makes it really hard to see.

I wouldn't want to cut the wire though - there are times when someone is behind me and I want to shade the mirror.

Anyone know how to make the mirror default to off????

Mine was doing that for a while but it finally went back to normal.

wow... that really sucks. I can't believe Ford would remove the off button on the dimming mirror. Well, I can believe it... just don't understand it....

Mine has a button.... right next to the one that turns on the light under the hood. OK maybe not. Or maybe it does. In the past 8 months I haven't had the desire to attempt to turn it off.

I'll look around and see what I can find out though.

Its pretty easy to figure out, if you can shut it off there is a big button on the front of the mirror that says OFF and one that says AUTO.

No button on my '06 FX4. I disabled mine by unplugging the connector going to the back of the mirror.

My 07 has a button on the back of the little box attached to the mirror. I assumed that's what it is for. Maybe they just moved the off button. If its for something else, I'd guess it would have to do with the compass or the auto headlights. I'd try it, but with my luck it would turn out to be the auto-destruct button!

I'll have to fool around with it some more as there is no button on my '06. I disengaged the wires going to the power box or so I thought but that just disabled my compass. So I may end up covering the sensor.

Thanks for the replies.
