Limited Slip-input please

The limited slip (3.73) in my 06 4x4 lariat (36k miles) doesn't seem to work too well. I have never in my recollection spun more than one tire at a time-pavement, gravel, etc. As a matter of fact, If I am on a rainy road, starting from a stand still on an incline (such as a stoplight at the bottom of a hill), it can be very hard to get going without spinning my one tire. The LS on my uncles truck on the other hand (f150 previous body style-year=?) locks up immediatly and never spins a solo wheel. Is this indicative of a problem with the LS clutches, My uncle told me to change the diff fluid and see if that helps, Havent done this yet. Any other input or suggestions? Not a big fan of the one tire fire.
Thanks

IMO our limited slip sucks. Going up my driveway on ice and snow one wheel just sat there spinning. But other times in the rain if I start to spin the second wheel will catch.

I have an open diff and even I get both wheels spinning in slippery conditions. I got stuck on an overpass on a rainy night last winter at a stop light, and both tires just spun. Spun in first, then shifted to second and spun, and finely got some traction in third. Im getting an aftermarket LS when I get my gears done. If you don't find a solution for your LS then you can go aftermarket.

I`ve swapped LS in every Mustang, Thunderbird, LSC I ever owned. The stock LS are just junk.

Im curious if most of the trucks mentioned here are 4x4 or 4x2 cause my truck is 4x2 with LS 3.73 and I never have a problem gettin both to spin. Just wonderin if its drive line related?

My LSD works damn good, a lot better than I've seen before. I would of got it replaced with my gears if I didn't believe so. The E-Brake trick works wonders offroad as well.

Mine works good too... when I go around a corner I can hear/feel the inside wheel biting. Tip of the day... With one rear wheel up and the other on the ground, there is a torque spec that it takes to turn the wheel that is off the ground. That will tell you if the limited slip is working properly. This tells you the friction of the clutches. If the torque is to low the clutches are worn.

Maybe I should start looking into new LS. Thanks for the input. Looks like hit or miss as far as functionality goes. If there are any tricks for getting better action out of the clutches, I am definetly open....

I have had both problems on two different trucks. My experience has shown that these clutches are very sensitive to the amount of friction modifier that is added to the rear synthetic oil. My '97's LS was working a little too well (barking tires while cornering), so a trip to the dealership fixed that with a change of oil/modifier. The '05's problem was on the other end...only one spinning. I did the same thing, and it has never let me down now for over 18 months. Before spending alot of money on aftermarket lockers, try having the dealer do it for free (if under warranty) or pay for a change of oil WITH the correct amount of modifier. Good luck.

From what I heard they changed the additive they put in the rear diff. I might have to make a run to the dealer.

Mine's not factory Limited Slip, but I am wanting to add Limited Slip to both ends... I have heard a LOT of complaints from folks using clutch type l-s diffs, which is why I am saving my pennies for Truetracs...

Warranty just ended, only took me 16 months to rack up the 36K dang-it! Guess I'ma call the dealer and ask what the oil/modifier specs are and do it myself. I appreciate the help, fellas
