Transmissions for the 4.6 and 5.4
Are the transmissions for the 4.6 and the 5.4 V8's the same. I'm about the do the console shifter conversion in my 06 4.6 XLT. I know the console shifter only comes in trucks with the 5.4 (Lariat and FX4), but the thought just crossed my mind that the transmission for the the two engines may be different. Does anyone have a reason to believe there will be problems using a console shifter with a 4.6 V8?
the 5.4's get the 4R75 trans, and the 4.6's get the 4R70. Basically the differences are internal, you should not have a problem with the swap, the shift cable should bolt right on to the side of the trans.

I thought the exact same thing... But take a look at this thread. A guy swore that his new 4.2 V6 came with the exact same tranny as the 5.4 comes with... I did an OASIS report, and sure enough, it said he also had the 4R75 tranny with the 4.2 V6... Very interesting...
That would be me.
My 07 4.2L has the 4R75E and my 07 4.6L does too.
The "job 2" owner's manual only shows a "Q" transmission code now.
I looked on the lot for fun and every F150 had a "Q" transmission. I probably looked at 25 trucks.
My quess is this is Ford's way of simplifying their parts inventory.

I have a 2007 F150 4.6L with Q transminssion code in my door Jamb. My owner's guide only lists the 4R75E as the default transmission for the 2007 F150. If you bought your truck in 2007, most likely you got the upgraded trans to handle the extra HP (additional 16 hp for 4.6 -2007 model-).
