Front windshield tinting...

I just got my front window tinted at the local tint shop.....with this tint I had never heard of til the guy told me about it. It is almost perfectly clear with a slight greenish tint to it, and is some kind of ceramic tint that blocks 50% of infrared (heat) from comming through the glass. On my drive home today the A/C was a lot cooler because of the lack of the usual insane amount of heat that comes through that huge window. It was also cooler when I got in it after sitting all day in the sun. It is of course illegal, as ANYTHING on the front window is, but this stuff is so lightly tinted, you can barely tell it is even on there. I checked a sample of the tint before I got it put on with a tint meter and it was at about 70%, and if you check your stock windshield, it is about 80% so they are very close. The guy that did it said it is really common for guys with older ferraris and stuff that had problems with dashs warping and cracking from the heat. I'm glad I did it, mainly for the increase in A/C performance when driving into the sun.

wow, sounds cool. I wonder how that would help with rock chips causing cracks. It's a big problem up here in the NW, more so then the heat.

Any pictures?

I've been tossing around the idea. Did your tint guy remove the rear view mirror before tinting or did he go around it?

Hahaha, well that's another story. They TRIED to take the rear view off, and broke the windshield. I had another window put in and they tinted it for free. He said normal cost for the ceramic tinting is $200 for a windshield. It wouldn't do anything for rock chips because the tint is put on the inside just like regular tint. I don't have any pics yet.......

Damn thats pretty steep but I guess its worth it if you can't see it.

My tint guy said he'd do it for $80 and removing the rear view mirror and he's already done that before.

i got mine tinted and love it. it's nothing crazy like ceramic tint or anything. just straight up tint at 35%. i'll load some pics when i get a chance. if anyone is thinking about doing it but has some doubts . . . go ahead and do it. it's worth it.

check out www.myspace.com/306stang for some pics until i post em up

It's not the sensor they break, it's the little tab that is glued to the window that breaks a chunk out of the glass. The new window comes with this tab glued in place already so you just snap it back into place.....and the mirror goes back on really hard too.

I want to tint mine but we have windshield tags here in Texas it would look way obvious to cut the tint out...

We do too, but it isn't that obvious around the sticker......it's not tinted like you think of "tinting", it's just very slightly noticeable.

PICS!

Here is a shot how they put it around the sticker and you can see the slight darker greenish tint.

Here is a good comparison in the garage, looking out. The wall is white, the passenger window is 20% and the window has the slight tint to it. So far I'm not regretting it one bit. I drove some last night in the dark and you can't really see any difference. It's so clear and blur free, you wouldn't know it was on there if you didn't already know. I wouldn't dare put anything on there that had any dye in it. Even some that have 35% on the front would be too dark for me.
