Now that's what I'm talkin' about... if they added a 6 or 7 speed manual gear box... I would be in heaven.

That $6600 surcharge will simply not fly for long in the half ton segment. Mark my words as soon as Dodge and Chevy hit the market with the diesels ford will knock down that surcharge to the 4000. They are first to market with it so they deserve premuim profit till the others catch up, but they will have to rebate it after that. I will pay 4k for one, i wont pay much over that though

I agree. When every company has a diesel there will be a big drop in the price, and thats when ill buy. And they better have a 6 speed manual in it

The dealership told me dad that the prices for diesels are going to be going up, over what they are now, for the 08 model year. Or atleast GM is raising the price for the Duramax, dad was looking at an 07 3500 duramax/allison and the price for the motor/tranny was something like $6500. The salesman told dad that when they were at a regional sales meeting a GM rep told them that for 08 the duramax/allison combo will be around $8000. And that is was because of al the new stuff that they are putting into the trucks because of ULSD, emissons, and fuel mileage.

Who knows if its true or not, but thats what he was told.

My next truck will be a diesel, no ifs, ands, or buts. If it is a 1/2 ton or 3/4-1ton depends on the prices of the diesel motors in each and also the towing capacity of the 1/2ton diesels. Right now I am just trying to hold off on buying a 3/4-1ton, as hard as it is, because I want to wait and see what the new F150s will offer. But, I WANT/NEED A SMOKER BAD!!!

That seems logical to me. i know they have had to make multiple changes to keep up with the emissions and I am sure that cost money. Even if they raise these prices though I see them having to give it back in a short period of time when sales start dropping and stock starts to pile up. People used to work trucks to the death, so a diesel made sense in the fact the consumer could take that 200k mile rebuild interval and actually put that to use. Now very few people keep trucks past 100k, so they are not going to befefit from the added life, just the overall increase in mileage. although diesels do get considerably better mileage its not enough to offset such a high added cost to get the diesel. Therefore I see the price having to drop to get them off the lots, regardless of what Ford Chevy and dodge hope to get from these

I understand what you are talking about. I hated forking over the $7000 extra for the diesel, but I am sure I will thank myself when I sell it in 6 to 8 years and get that much more back out of it because they hold their value that much better.
