Getting rid of Edge Evolution?

Getting rid of Edge Evolution?
Ok, so with the release of the new apple iphone, I instantly want it, but I have a problem. I told myself that I would save all the money I made this summer for college, so instead of spending my money, I was thinking of selling my edge and using that money to put towards an iphone. I know you all may think this is totally stupid, but since i have had the edge I have not improved my mileage at all and it seems to be more of a toy than a useful addition to my truck. Another thing prompting me to get rid of it, is when I choose to trade in the truck, I know i will not get any money for all the mods that I have done, so what do you guys think?

just busting yo chops a little. Forget the Iphone, wait for version 2. Seriously, it uses crappy ATT/Cingular Data Network (SLOW, SLOW, SLOW) unless you are at a wi-fi hot spot, has bad text editing options, has no GPS capability (unbelievable at that price point), mediocre web viewing, has to be sent back to Apple for battery replacement @ IPOD, and has little to none app add-on capability at this time.
it's basically a $600 phone that plays music. Plenty of phones for less than $100 (much less) can do that just as well or better. Wait for the next one that uses the faster network and has more storage, plus better 3rd party app support. I bet we see it before Christmas. Then this Iphone will be like beta.

So let's take a look at the math.
* $640 Phone - $599 plus tax (~8%)
* $60/mo Voice Plan - cheapest plan with unlimited nights and weekends
* $40/mo MEdia Max 3000 Bundle - includes 3000 texts and unlimited MediaNet which I assume will work as the browse function on the iPhone
* $8/mo Fees - lovely fees
So doing the math, and looking at a year of usage on this device, the total comes to (ATT rate plans):
$1,936
No thanks!! I can find a better use for nearly $2000 a year.

I would hold off on the iPhone. It looks cool but its lacking in some areas. I'm pretty rough with my phones. I drop mine at least once a day on the concrete. I cant imagine what that would do to the iPhone. The Helio Ocean phone will do everything the iPhone will and lots more plus its 3g for $295

If you are really set on the iPhone then wait for the 2nd Gen.

What I think: do not buy the phone. Sell the Edge. Put ALL that money into college.
Because, judging from your (lack of) lucid reasoning here, you need all the eduction you can get.
Once out of school (hopefully) and earning a proper salary, you can go buy all the toys you want - faulty reasoning notwithstanding.....
