I had that happen to mine. I don't know what the problem was, but it had to be replaced. Haven't had it happen since. You're looking at about 4 - 6 weeks to get yours fixed. If it still doesn't work then your ford tech can request a brand new one. Half of the time, the repair center doesn't get it fixed, so you'll get a brand new one two weeks after the 4 - 6 weeks.

The truck is still under warranty but I don't think it is worth the time. I will probably just replace it with a better aftermarket radio.

Go aftermarket... I had to replace my 6 disk in my Ford Escape like 3 times.. finally I got soo mad, I punched it and I broke the screen and I bought an aftermarket deck. The best addition to the whole thing.

LOL, that's awesome. It doesn't always work out that way though. Sometimes it gives a great excuse to go buy something better (as above) and sometimes it just makes things worse. I've had it go both ways myself. But DAMN, doesn't it feel good to WHACK something that's been makin' you unhappy, eh Manual?! Great post, made me laugh!

You see I was hoping the old "give it a whack" would have fixed it...

But what made me soo mad, was that it ATE all my Metallica CDs... the original cds... not ripped/burned ones... ones that I PAID A LOT FOR. How did I get it out? A screw driver and some tin snips.

I had to have the radio in my last truck( 05 XLT ) fixed because the CD player wouldn't work...they ended up replacing the entire CD changer. Cost me about 200 bucks. I was debating just going with an aftermarket unit, but knew I'd end up buying one of those $1000 or higher units with the nav and dvd player, so I just decided to stay stock.

My old 2000 done the same thing I replaced it with a aftermarket one so far the factory one in my 05 is still going strong. If it acts up before i hit 36k I'll have Ford fix or replace it after 36k it will be aftermarket.

If your '05 F-150 was made prior to May 2005, there is a TSB to replace the head unit (TSB's 05-06-09, 05-10-19, etc...). Just take it to the dealer. See if you can get a 2007 model head unit. They have about twice the power of the '05.

I've seen them lock-up, spit out CD's and just flash CD ERROR. If it's locked-up, you can pull the big plug off the back of the head unit and let it sit overnight. Plug it back in about 8 hours later and it should reset and work normally. The one in my '05 FX4 locked up hard on a Friday, I left it unplugged all weekend, and it worked just fine afterwards.
