Radar Detector/Jammer
Radar Detector/Jammer
I haveny had one in a long time. What are some of the better brands out there? Whats effective? I will be driving from Alaska to Kentucky and Im sure Im going to want one or the other or both. Just looking for suggestions.
do you just want a radar detecor or do you want laser jamming too? the valentine V1 is your best bet for detection. my city cops use laser A LOT so I got the escort passport srx for the laser shifting
I could porbley use both of them. It will mainly be highway miles along many states. It wouldnt get used much for in city driving. I dont know what would be best for me. I need suggestions.

RADAR jammers are illigal via federal law

You can technically build one yourself...
All you need is a very short dipole antenna, and a transmitter that transmits on these frequencies:
10.525 GHz ±25 MHz
24.125 GHz ±100 MHz
24.150 GHz ±100 MHz
33.4 - 36.0 GHz
As far as power, I'd recommend something around 20 watts.
Those pesky "LASER" radar detection systems can be over come with a few laser leds, and a refractor to evenly spread the laser light. You might need a few laser leds... or have two arrays set up. Like one on the front of the car and one on the back. The nanometers of the laser they use 904 nm.
You could get this whole thing setup for less than $100 and it would jam everything in site in those frequencies.
However... you would need to know some basic soldering skills, radio wave propagation... but something that someone could do for you.

for radar detectors, i have friends with both the escort and the valentine. we put them both in the same car to test them 1on1. the escort is better at picking it up, detects it before the valentine does. it even detects it over hills and around sharp bends, and from 1-2 miles away sometimes. but the one nice thing about the valentine is that it tells you what direction it is coming from (front, back, or sides). however the valentine is about 150 bucks more in most places. in my personal opinion, id buy the escort 8500x its the best value for the price out there.
Anyone know anything about the Beltronics RX65? Whats your recommendation for a cross country drive? I dont know what would be most effective. I wont be flying becacuse Ill have a UHAUL behind me but going through the little towns (speed traps) I would love to have something to save me.
Thanks

My opinion is they dont work. The only way they would really help you is if youre on a straight away w/no hills. I wouldnt waste my money and just drive about 5mph over. They usually dont bother you in this range. This is what I do. Just my .02 though. Long drive, good luck and have a safe trip.
Ok... sorry to drag a recent thread back but I need some feedback.
I'm currently vacationing with family in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Because I reside in Virginia, and radar detectors are illegal there, I'm taking advantage of being here and have [finally] decided to purchase one before returning home a week from today.
I've researched the beejeezuz out of these for close to two months and have nailed it down to one: Escort Passport 8500 X50. Two questions -
Anyone have anything to add about this radar detector?
The local Best Buys here where we're staying has it for $344.99 [which, BTW, is more than RRP HERE]. Anyone from this area know where I can save a little more? We're staying in Nth Myrtle Beach but I'll travel a little to save a lot.
Obviously, I can save more online, but nobody will mail it to me in VA.
